HomeMy WebLinkAboutP&Z Minutes 1965-03-08 Regularf l I I MINUTES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING, MARCH 8, 1965 A regular meeting of the Friendswood Planning Commission was held March 8, 1965; 7:30 P.M. at City Hall, Present were W.L. Boyle, Tony Banfield, A.J. Block, Gerald Hollis, Dean Saurenman. Also present were Harry Wagner, Marvin Childers, Mrs, George Lowe. The Webster Planning Commission was unable to attend this meeting due to the flu, however, they stated that they meet every Tuesday night and asked that we attend at our convenience, In a discussion of zoning, there were several points brought up; that the fifty percent of property owners that must vote for a variance in order that a person may change the zone of his property;outside study and recommendation, which is a good idea but would cost approx­imately $2,000.00 to $3,000.00; the length of the present ordinance-much of the wording in this particular ordinance is required by law, that the length of an o�dinance doesn't affect its usefulness or ability to do the job it was designed for. Dean Saurenman made a motion that the Subdivision Code (Ordinance# 23) be amended to read that lots on curvalinear streets have the same - regulations on size and shape as those on cul-de-sacs. Tony Banfield seconded this motion and the motion carried unanimously. Tony Banfield Banfield made mo,tion that the Planning Commission recommend to the Friendswood City Council that they give final approval of the plat of the Subdivision "Enchanted Woods" as presented; providing that the water and sewer are approved by Utilities Superintendent; Motion seconded by A.J. Block. Motion unanimous, There was discussion on the road right-of-way existent on the southwest side of the above mentioned subdivision; that the recommended right-of­way recommended on all city streets is 60 1 ; that the present allowed right-of-way on this street is undetermined; that before the adjoining property is put to use this right-of-way must be properly alloted. Rex Clawson submitted engineers plotting of the proposed curve (into his property) ON Sunset Drive. this information is not sufficient for proper study and is tabled for the present. l I James Baker's proposed sign for his store is recommended for approval to the City Council, A.J. Block showed the map that he and Glenn McDonald are working up for gridding; block and house numbering. There was discussion of quandrant designations i.e. N.E., s.w. etc and following grid lines or varying to fit present situations. Meeting adjourned,
