HomeMy WebLinkAboutP&Z Minutes 1964-07-27 RegularI I I l PLANNING COMMISSIO N MEETING, JULY 27, 1964 A meeting of the Friendswood Planning Commission was held at the City Hall July 27, 1964 at 7:30 P.M. Present were Tony Banfield, A.J. Block Jr., Wilbert Boyle, and Dean Saurenman. Also present were Mayor Harry D. Wagner, Curtis Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Shore, Mrs. Bilderback, Mrs. Dauphin and guest speaker, Mr. Ralph Ellifrit. Minutes of the July 13, 1964 meeting stood approved as read. It was suggested that L.D. Lafferty, who resigned, be replaced by someone from the same area; Friendswood Forest. Mayor Wagner was asked to present this matter of replacement to the City Council. Tony Banfield introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Ralph Ellifrit, planning consultant. Among his many years of experience are twenty years as Director of the Planning Department of the City of Houston. Mr. Ellifrit spoke most interestingly on many facets of planning a community. The purpose of a planning commission is to assist the city council by distributing the necessary wor�,� and bringing re�om-f"'l/1 e-mend at ions for a better community. They must�p oper plans and administer them. The earlier plans are started in a community's development, the better the development is. Mr. Ellifrit answered questions of those present and offered to assist the Commission at any time. There was a general discussion of many points of Mr. Ellifrit's talk. Meeting adjourned. Points of discussion: zoning standards of development drainage streets and street patterns well engineered facilities safe intersections, rigqt-of-ways acquiring park sites arnf school sites planning with far future in mind as well as present driveways and streets approved before opening to use
