HomeMy WebLinkAboutFDEDC Minutes 2017-11-14 Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation (FDEDC) Meeting of the Board of Directors Meeting Minutes of November 14, 2017 Friendswood Public Library, Meeting Room 416 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood,Texas 77546 1. Call to order and roll call of Board Members The meeting was called to order at 4:04 p.m. with a quorum present. Present: President Ron Cox, Vice President Alton Todd, Arden "Trey" Hill, Elmer "Bubba" Johnson,Jr., Rebecca Hillenburg, and Paul Marx. Absent: Dr. Pat McGinnis Staff member present: Karen Capps Also present: Friendswood resident, Phillip Ratisseau. 2. Citizen comments There were no citizen comments. 3. Consider and take action on approval of October 10, 2017 meeting minutes Motion by Rebecca Hillenburg to approve the meeting minutes, second Alton Todd. All in favor, motion carried. 4. Discussion and possible action to review and prioritize possible projects The Board reviewed and discussed a list of possible downtown projects. There was further discussion regarding how to prioritize the project list, and that undertaking any projects other than removing utility poles and wires, would require design and branding services to help create a unique identity for the downtown area. There was also discussion regarding how other cities, i.e. Pearland and Nassau Bay utilized the services of professional landscape architecture firms to provide design, cost estimates, and proposed timeline for projects. Following this discussion, Rebecca Hillenburg made a motion to invite up to three landscape architect firms to meet with the Board, motion seconded by Paul Marx and it passed unanimously. The Board would like to review with each firm their credentials, products, and samples of work for additional fact finding. 5. Discussion and follow up regarding the Board's planning and goal-setting meeting No reports. 6. Financial Report Karen Capps provided a monthly financial report for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2017. October sales tax revenue was $34,531 with an ending fund balance of$193,898. 7. Staff Updates Karen Capps gave an update on "Project Poles and Wires Relocation and Reduction," stating that AT&T should soon commence the project and that it will take approximately one month to complete. The Board directed Staff to purchase a sign that states "your downtown improvement sales tax dollars at work," and erect it at the project site for public awareness. An update on downtown development was also provided. 9. Members comments Alton Todd said that he recently visited Big Springs, Texas which has a population of about 27,000, and the town has a unique identity that draws people there. 10.
