ADJUSTMENT JULY 21 , 1987 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD WHICH WAS HELD AT CITY HALL ON JULY 21 , 1987 WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: CHAIRMAN HAL TAYLOR REGULAR MEMBER MAURICE ESTLINBAUM REGULAR MEMBER DR . TOM SULLIVAN ALTERNATE MEMBER S.TEVE JOHNSON ALTERNATE MEMBER KENNY KONCABA ALTERNATE MEMBER HOWARD YEAGER ALTERNATE MEMBER MARY ELLEN -BELLARD CHAIRMAN TAYLOR. CALLED .THE MEETING .TO ORDER . STEVE JOHNSON AND . • HOWARD MEAGER WERE APPOINTED REGULAR MEMBERS" FOR THIS MEETING. KENNY KONCABA EXCUSED HIMSELF FROM THE MEETING. CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM RENIE NEUNG OF CHINA- CHEF .RESTAURANT REGARDING A VARIANCE TO KEEP THE EXISTING SIGN ' ON THE SIDE WALL FACING FM2351 AND FM518 . - RENIE NEUNG, OF CHINA CHEF RESTAURANT STATED THAT THE MANAGEMENT IS IN THE PROCESS OF REDOING THE LOOK OF THE ENTIRE BUILDING THEY ARE LOCATED IN . THE SIGN ON THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING IS A NEW SIGN AND HAS ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED . SHE IS REQUESTING THAT THEY BE ALLOWED TO PAINT OVER THE END OF THE BUILDING FACING FM2351 WHICH HAS BEEN THERE FOR YEARS AND INSTALL A NEW SIGN WHICH WOULD BE 2 . 25 FEET TALL AND 12 . 00 FEET LONG . THEY DEFINITELY NEED SIDE IDENTIFICATION ON THAT END OF THE BUILDING BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF SIGMOR GAS STATION AND ACCORDING TO . THE SIGN ORDINANCE , ANOTHER SIGN. CANNOT BE PUT ON THE BACK OF THE BUILDING .FACING FM518 . THEIR BUSINESS NEEDS MORE ADVERTISEMENT TO EXIST . CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM JOHN HENDRIX OF ALOHA TROPICAL SNO OF VARIANCE TO INCLUDE PERMANENT "ALOHA TROPICAL SNO" SIGN ON THE PYLON SIGN LOCATED AT 3640 FM528 . JOHN HENDRIX STATED TO THE BOARD THAT HE NEEDS IDENTIFICATION ON THE PYLON SIGN NEAR THE ROAD SO THAT WHOEVER PASSES CAN SEE THAT THERE IS INDEED A PET SHOP IS THE STRIP CENTER . THE SIGN WILL BE 3X10 FEET AND HE STATED THAT HE FELT .HE QUALIFIES AS A ' HARDSHIP CASE . **DR . TOM SULLIVAN MADE THE MOTION TO GRANT THE VARIANCE TO RENIE NEUNG OF CHINA CHEF RESTAURANT TO INSTALL A NEW SIGN ON THE SIDE BUILDING FACING FM2351 . HOWARD YEAGER SECONDED THE MOTION . MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY . 1 **STEVE. . JOHNSON MADE -THE MOTION TO GRANT THE VARIANCE TO JOHN . HENDRIX OF "ALOHA TROPICAL SNO" TO INCLUDE PERMANENT SIGN ON THE PYLON SIGN. DR . TOM SULLIVAN . SECONDED THE MOTION . MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY . STEVE JOHNSON WAS APPOINTED AS A REGULAR MEMBER TO THE BOARD FROM AN ALTERNATE MEMBER . DISCUSSION FOLLOWED REGARDING THE RECOMMENDATION OF A NAME FOR AN ALTERNATE MEMBER TO THE BOARD . IT WAS DECIDED TO TALK TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO WERE INTERESTED AND GIVE NAMES AT THE NEXT MEETING . THE MINUTES FROM MAY 19 , 1987 WERE APPROVED AS PRESENTED . THE MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8 : 00 P .M.
