DORIS HEARD SPOKE TO THE BOARD AND STATED WHEN BURGER KING CAME TO FRIENDSWOOD , THEY WERE VERY ACCOMODATING TO THE CITY ' S NEEDS TO SIGNAGE WERE VERY EASY TO WORK WITH AND SHE HOPED BOTH "WHATABURGER" AND "MCDONALD 'S" WOULD BE ALSO . VICE CHAIRMAN ESTLINBAUM CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM DONNA L . LEWIS OF NEON ELECTRIC CORPORATION REPRESENTING "MCDONALD" CORPORATION TO SEEK VARIANCE FOR MENU- BOARD , ( 3) - 3 . 5 SQ.FT . ON SITE DIRECTIONAL SIGNS , 3 NON- ILLUMINATED WALL SIGN AND 1 FREE STANDING SIGN LOCATED AT 302 SOUTH FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE . DONNA L . WHEN THE BUSINESS WAS IN THE PLANNING STAGES , THE SIGNAGE PLANNED FOR THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD ' S "MCDONALD 'S" IS A 75 PERCENT REDUCTION IN REGULAR "MCDONALD" SIGNS . BARBARA BROWN, PAUL LA CHANCE (SONIC) , BOBBY CARTER (KUSTOM PAINT COMPANY) AND BOB BROWN (BAY AREA POOLS) , WERE IN ATTENDANCE TO LET THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT KNOW THAT THEY ARE IN FAVOR OF BUSINESSES COMING THE CITY BUT THAT THE SMALLER REQUIREMENT FOR SIZE OF SIGNS DOES NEED TO BE CONSIDERED . DISCUSSION FOLLOWED AT LENGTH BETWEEN MS . LEWIS AND THE BOARD . VICE CHAIRMAN ESTLINBAUM CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM JOE WEST , 611 HEATHER LANE , BRIAR MEADOWS SUBDIVISION, TO SEEK VARIANCE ON SIDE SETBACK OF 5 . 5 FEET TO BUILD AN ADDITION TO HOME . JOE WEST STATED THE ADDITION TO HIS HOME IS FOR HIS MOTHER TO LIVE IN. WHEN THE BUILDER , RICHARD LEE , MADE THE PLANS FOR THE ADDITION THEY REALIZED THEY WERE 5 . 5 FEET IN THE 10 FOOT SIDE SETBACK AND MOST ALL OF THE SIDE SETBACK IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARE 5 - 10 FEET . THE ROOF LINE OF THE ADDITION WILL BE MEETING THE LINE OF THE HOME IT WILL BE ATTACHED TO AND CANNOT BE MOVED BACK BECAUSE THE SPACE FOR THE REFRIGERATOR WILL BE IN THE WAY.
