I I i i I REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MAY 22, 1990 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD WHICH WAS HELD AT CITY HALL ON MAY 227 1990 WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: CHAIRMAN WILLIAM TAYLOR REGULAR MEMBER DR. TOM SULLIVAN REGULAR MEMBER DAVID O'BRIEN,III REGULAR MEMBER ANN TALBOT ALTERNATE MEMBER HOWARD YEAGER ALTERNATE MEMBER DAVE' HERBECK ALTERNATE MEMBER EVELYN BRENNAN BUILDING INSPECTOR NICK CAPUANO i SIDE CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER LINDA TAYLOR ASSISTANT TO CITY SECRETARY JANE TOLLETT CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND APPOINTED ALTERNATE MEMBERS HOWARD YEAGER AND DAVID HERBECK AS REGULAR MEMBERS. CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM GARY KRCH SEEKING VARIANCE TO CONSTRUCT WROUGHT IRON FENCE ALONG FRONT PROPERTY LINE AT LOCATION OF 1206 DEEPWOOD . MR. KRCH PRESENTED PICTURES OF PROPERTY AND STATED HE PLANS TO BUILD HOME AT LATER DATE BUT NEED THE FENCE NOW IN ORDER TO CONTROL VANDALISM AND THE DUMPING .OF VARIOUS THINGS ON THE PROPERTY. HE STATED HE FELT IT IS UNFAIR TO DENY USE OF PROPERTY WITH THE 25 FOOT FRONT SETBACK PROPERTY. LINDA TAYLOR STATED MR. KRCH MAY FENCE THE PROPERTY BUT NOT THE FRONT OF THE PROPERTY ' BY ORDER OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE REQUIREMENTS. DISCUSSION FOLLOWED AT LENGTH BETWEEN THE BOARD AND MR . KRCH. _ I I CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM BARBARA C. ANDREWS REPRESENTING MICROCOMPUTER TECHNICAL INSTITUTE SEEKING VARIANCE TO CONSTRUCT TWO WALL SIGNS WITH TOTAL SIGNAGE OF 270 SQUARE FEET. MS. ANDREWS STATED THE COMPANY IS IN NEED OF LARGER SIGNAGE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE RAPIDLY GROWING COMPANY. WHEN THE PRESENT SIGN WAS APPROVED , THE COMPANY WAS ONLY ON ONE END OF ' THE BUILDING AND NOW IT ENCOMPASSES MUCH MORE SPACE . TODAY, THE PRESENT SIGN REPRESENTS ON 15% OF SQUARE FOOTAGE ALLOWED BY THE SIGN ORDINANCE. DISCUSSION FOLLOWED BETWEEN MS. ANDREWS AND THE BOARD AT LENGTH. 1 AT THIS TIME, THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. **HOWARD YEAGER MADE THE MOTION TO GRANT THE VARIANCE TO GARY KRCH REGARDING CONSTRUCTION OF WROUGHT IRON FENCE ALONG FRONT PROPERTY LINE AT LOCATION OF 1206 DEEPWOOD . DR. TOM SULLIVAN SECONDED THE MOTION. WILLIAM TAYLOR , ANN TALBOT, HOWARD YEAGER AND DR. TOM SULLIVAN APPROVED THE MOTION. DAVID O'BRIEN,III OPPOSED THE MOTION. **DR. TOM SULLIVAN MADE THE MOTION TO GRANT A TEMPORARY SIGN OF THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO AUGUST 14, 1990 TO BARBARA C. ANDREWS REPRESENTING MICROCOMPUTER TECHNICAL INSTITUTE IN LIEU OF OTHER REQUEST OF VARIANCE OF TWO WALL SIGNS WITH TOTAL SIGNAGE OF 270 SQUARE FEET. SECONDED BY DAVID O 'BRIEN,III.
