B2,V vyl n_t6ly� S 30 , Printed Name of Owner Name of Designated Representative Signature of CP ner Acc pting Application on behalf of City Name Date Fee Paid UNAPPROVED ;' MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT April 5 , 1983 The Board of Adjustment met for a special meeting at 7 : 00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 , 1983 , _at City Hall, with the following present: Chairman Ed Dykes Elvia Salyer Ray Nelson Hal Taylor Bernice Box (Alternate) Bobbie Henry, Secretary With a quorum present, and with Chairman Dykes designating Box as a voting member for the meeting, the following business ' ; was transacted: , CONTINUATION OF CONSIDERATION FOR FRIENDSWOOD CROSSING SIGNS Guy Wade , architect for the development , was present to speak for the proposal for signs as originally presented. Dr. Bill Jones , Lila Ritter, Doris Heard, and Pat Riley, all of whom are- members or past members of the Community Appe-arance Board, originators of the concept of sign regulations in Friendswood, discussed with the Board and Mr. Wade some of the logic behind maximum size limits on signs . as set forth in the Sign Ordinance No. 323 . Mr. Wade had no alternate to his original proposal and the Board felt that existing conditions do not constitute a hardship to i the developer, nor -to future tenants of the shopping center. Chairman Dykes asked for a vote on the question , "Shall a variance be granted on the amount of signs permitted - for the Friendswood Crossing Shopping Center. " The vote was : FOR: None AGAINST: Five The request for variance was denied. REQUEST FOR VARIANCE ON SIGNS AT MIKE' S GYM Mike Thompson , with his attorney Tom Haanz , requested that Mike ' s Gym signs be allowed to stand as .is due to the location of the business where a mansard sign can not be viewed from the street. At present Thompson has a billboard type sign painted on the side of the building which is 216 square feet border to border, and a free-.standing sign at the front of the shopping center. t• 'i MOTION: (Taylor) To allow the wall sign as is . Died for lack of a second. MOTION: (Nelson) To allow the wall sign as is if the free-standing sign is removed. Second: Box MOTION: (Salyer) To amend the motion by adding "if the border on the wall sign is removed. " Motion failed. VOTE ON ORIGINAL MOTION: FOR: (3 ) Box, Taylor, Nelson AGAINST: (2 ) Dykes , Salyer Motion failed for lack of required four votes . Thompson was informed that he must conform to the Ordinance within thirty days , and the City will be directed to enforce the Board' s decision. ADJOURNMENT - Motion was made that the meeting adjourn. The meeting was adjourned.
