Call to order: Meeting was called to order 6:30p.m. 2. Discussion/Approval of January 26, 2019 minutes: Jeff made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, Tim second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. 3. Communications/Guest: Justin Estopinal was in attendance and wants to be a board member, Justin has lived here his whole life, and a member of Friendswood Youth Baseball. Brent Bell, is interested in joining the board as well, an employee with Waste Management. He specialized in Recycling. Ron Cox, with FDEC, will present the new Friendswood Downtown District Improvement Plan. A. Volunteer Hours Future Hour Reporting System Forms: Natasha showed a power point on the new tracking system for volunteer hours. National average of a volunteer hour is $28hr, Sherry stated that KFB saves the city up to $70,000 a year. Natasha showed the detail of what has been submitted so far. B. Committee Reports (Oral and Written) **Executive Committee-Natasha McAdoo: The executive met a couple weeks ago, we will post info on Simple Recycling next week with tagging the nonprofit groups. **Simple Recycling Program and Implementation: Launches March 4, will be posting information on Facebook and sending a press release out. **2018 Governor’s Community Achievement Award Grant: Grant has been submitted, will here who won at the end of March. State of the City Luncheon/Presentation Table: Kimberly informed the group to sign up if you’re going, this year it will be at New Hope Church. Proposed template report: different goals there has been some changes Updated committee leader designations: Brandee Fernandez is the new Public Awareness Chair, Sherry Goen is the new Education Committee Chair, and Tim Anderson is the new Environmental Committee Chair. New future board member criteria: Looking at needs on recycling, arborist, identifying key areas that the board needs and what they are, Sign up for future Keep Friendswood Beautiful events: Kimberly passed around sign-up sheets for upcoming events. **Keep Texas Beautiful/Michael Fernandez: Michael stated that he signed in on the KTB website and will participate on webinars, and keep up to date on grant information. KTB conference: Michael and Brandee will be attending with Natasha and Kimberly. **Public Awareness-Brandee Fernandez: Brandee stated we had a 26% increase on Facebook, currently have 2400 followers, most popular post are the HOA grant incentive and the Simple Recycling program. Instagram, we have 177 followers. Photo contest, we’re looking for donations for the 1st 2nd and 3rd place prizes. **Education-Sherry Goen: Sherry is currently working on a Spring Workshop, a Brochure for the garden, educational booklet that school children could use. April 6th is the Container Bed workshop, Karolyn and Kaye will be our presenter. **Beautification/Kaye Corey Pollinator Garden Project Update: Kaye stated the water feature is in and working, met with Ted on the arbor, he will start working on it as soon as it stops raining, the city will help set the post for the arbor. Susan and Kaye, planted seeds in the fall, Beauty Berries and Blue Bonnets have been planted. Ordered border plants, local company offered to help as well with plants at cost or donated. Kaye showed the board the new signs, the smaller signs that will describe each plant in the pollinator garden. Small signs will be in front of plants and larger will be by the trees. Heritage Gardeners were given a tree at the tree giveaway and the tree has been planted in the park. Matching Grant: The matching grant was posted, deadline April 30th. Kaye informed the board that Friendswood has the largest crepe myrtle in the state of Texas, resident wants to remain private. Tree Giveaway Map: Natasha showed the board the new map of where each tree went from the Tree Giveaway. This year there was an education component added. Justin Estopinal provided training on planting and maintaining the trees. Business Beautification Update: Has been put under the beatification committee Shawn will take over this responsibility. Patty makes a motion move the beautification sign to Lary’s Florist, Susan second the motion and the motion was passed unanimously. **Parks: Dog Park is almost finished, late April early May for the opening, benches are installed, concrete poured for sidewalk, waiting on play equipment. Bob Kessel will be installing trees soon. **Environmental Action: Michael stated that Brent Bell would be great for the environmental group, educate our community with his experience and knowledge. Recycling Club: Michael stated we saw them a couple weeks ago. We would like to have a couple of them talk to us at the board meeting, possibly one of the students as a liaison for the high school. Michael invited the board to help out with the recycling club. C. Median Maintenance: We received an update from TXDOT last week. They will be landscaping the medians in 8 months. A meeting with them will take place soon to discuss landscaping options. In the meantime, we hope to landscape a “model” median to test sustainability and use as an example for the new contractors and citizens of Friendswood. 5.
