1. Call to order: Call meeting to order at 6:28pm
2. Discussion/approval May 22, 2018 minutes: Tim made a motion to approve the minutes as
presented, Natasha second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously.
3. Communication/Guest: Sherry welcomed our guest to the meeting.
4. Volunteer Hours: Sherry asked the board members to submit your volunteer hours.
5. Committee Reports
Executive Committee: Did not have a meeting we did apply for a grant, Texas Rebuilding Grant and
requested $15,000.
Keep Texas Beautiful: Susan is on vacation, she is working on a native plant grant which will be
available in September
Public Awareness/Natasha: Items for the teacher’s gift was $265. Natasha stated the on July 30th from
8-9 need help stuffing the bags. Subcommittee talked about increasing activity on our Facebook page.
Will be posting the hottest part of Friendswood on Facebook. We’re going to start working on the
Christmas downtown decorating contest.
Education/Patty Steinke: Patty stated Kaye and Susan are on the bird subcommittee, they will talk to
GCCDD on removing trees and plants. Will coordinate a meeting next month. Patty wants to purchase
some bird houses for the project from Wild Birds Unlimited. We want to put in 3 blue bird houses made
of a poly resin material. Will need monitoring, and will be on a pole. Install screech owl houses in the
wooded part by the bridge, 20ft in the air. Housing for bats, we’re getting 4 units Wild Bird Unlimited
will install the blue birdhouses and will adivise us on the location of the other houses.
Total bid is $840.42 for all of the houses. We will not be feeding the birds just providing shelter for the
birds. Screech owl and bar houses are made out of wood. Patty made a motion to spend $840.42 to
purchase bird housing for Stevenson Park, Natasha second and it was approved unanimously. Chara
Back to School event on August 4th.
Beautification/Kaye Corey: Kaye stated that they were asked to develop a plan for a pollinator garden.
Susan and I are gearing up for an August meeting. Kaye stated we went to St Julian’s crossing, which is a
native plant garden which was put on by Lauren Simpson. Lauren is helping them with the project. We
are researching the plants and will be doing a power point to present to the board at the August
meeting. Heritage gardeners will use the power point as well to recruit volunteers. City will be adding
irrigation and electricity for the water feature. It will not be just native plants, they live 2 to 3 months,
seed out then will need to be replaced but will need to have other plants in there too. Matching grant,
the Heritage Gardeners garden is not completed yet. They need markers and irrigation. Present the
check to heritage gardeners at their September meeting.
Painting of Fence in Stevenson: Sherry stated that we would like to paint the other side of the fence to
go along with the butterfly theme.
Parks: Table
Renwick Park Project: Table
Environmental Action: need to select a business friends uncorked and firestone, tannos building.
Michael made a motion to award Forward Automotive, Natasha second.
Business Beautification: The sign will go up next month to Forward Automotive for the second quarter,
6. Median Maintenance: FM2351 will be cleaned up starting next week. Special touch will no longer
be our mowing contract company as of August 6th; Cornerstone will start on August 7th. TxDot will start
on the FM518 medians in January.
7. Conference Update: We did go to the conference in June. We want to paint the electrical boxes on
FM518, reach out to volunteers. Tree giveaway captures the information, have a map, have them send
pictures later on once the tree has grown. Sally would like to go for the scenic city award. Get together
and come up with a list of items to adopt and move forward with.
8. Fig Bed and artwork in Stevenson: Tree will be added this fall and artwork will be added in October.
9. Request to partner with Historical Society/Ice cream social: Get together with other groups,
approached KFB to help them with that. A bubblicious ice cream, Mayor is going to speak we’re going to
come together and letting go of Harvey. May require some of you to dip ice cream. First shift is at 2:45
on Labor Day.
10. New Business: Banners for fall, $1200 Patty made a motion to spend $1200 for fall banners, Shawn
second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. Kaye came up with a good idea to have
a binder for each chair, $175 Patty made a motion, to spend $175 on binders for subcommittee chairs,
Kaye second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. Marketing material will cost
$1,000 Shawn made a motion, to spend $1000 on new marketing material, Paul second the motion and
the motion was approved.
11. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm.
