1. Call to Order: Call to order at 6:33pm.
2. Discussion/Approval of April 24, 2018 Minutes: Shawn, Susan
3. Communications/Guests: Chris Chism with Little League brought a presentation on
improvements they want to do at the park. The reason for Chris to visit is the look of the park,
not happy with the look of the park. There’s a lot of area for improvement at the park. Would
like to have a 20/20 committee consisting of KFB and the little league board. Front entrance
needs to be addressed, information board. Todd suggested hardscapes. Likes the idea of a
playground. No irrigation in the common areas. Park closes at 10pm. Sherry suggested to start
small, like starting with the entrance let people know it’s in the works. Susan suggested to paint
the trash cans between the teams. James suggested to have Renwick included in the parks
master plan 20/20.
City will be looking for funding to fund the Parks Master Plan. Change out the sign. Funding will
be coming in for field usage from private lessons that will go back to the park.
A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry informed the board to turn in your hours.
B. Committee Reports (Oral and Written)
**Executive Committee---Sherry Goen: We’re currently working on medians with TxDot, meeting with
them on Thursday. We also judged the photo contest.
**Keep Texas Beautiful---Susan Stephens (KTB Updates/Recycling Grant/National
Planting Day); Grant, Susan applied, educate our new residents to recycle, ongoing education with our
residents, we have a pretty good participation rate. I requested $1,000 and ongoing education, deadline
is this Friday,
**Public Awareness---Natasha McAdoo (Photo Contest) Natasha stated the photo contest has been
completed, different criteria, creativity, photo quality and theme. Fireworks won first place, 2nd place was
the Spreading oaks street, 3rd place was the Friendswood high school stadium, 164 photos submitted, the
contest seems to be growing. Facebook likes went up to 125 within a month, per capita we were pretty
high compared to other cities, winners will be announced at June 1st, Earth day at Cline Elementary, Figgy
attended as well.
**Education—Patty Steinke (Spring Workshop Update and Bird House Project) Patty stated the
Audubon Society gave the work shop on May 5th, she stated they found a perfect area between Old City
Park and Stevenson Park to add bird houses. We have a person that wants to donate bird houses, we’ll
need to remove the ligustrom, and plant native plants, build chimney sweeps at 1776 park. James stated
we need to involve the Galveston county drainage district and the land owner. We can accept bird
houses.
**Beautification---Kaye Corey—(Matching Grant)-Kaye stated that we had 2 submission one from
Laurelfield HOA and Heritage Gardeners rose garden, Kaye spoke about a rose garden that Laurelfield
wants to add, Kaye stated we decided that Heritage gardeners gets the grant this year. Kaye made a
motion to award the matching grant to Heritage gardeners, Natasha second the motion and it passed
unanimously. Kaye stated she looked at both sites, for that reason, Kayewants to work with Laurelfield
HOA to plant something else. Sherry encourage Mrs. Hand to reapply.
**Parks—Paul Marx (Parks Master Plan): Paul stated that we voted to move forward with the parks
master plan. James stated that we can look into funds from the parks dedication fund to play for the
master plan or go out for a decision package. James stated that the parking lot at the dog park will be
ready in a couple months,
**Environmental Action---Michael Fernandez (Business Beautification): They met with Gimme a Bark
to present the quarterly beautification award.
C. Median Maintenance: Fm2351 medians: James stated we are working with a new mowing
contractor and having some growing pains. If you see something that’s out of whack let Kim know. Todd
stated we have a meeting with TX dot and see what changes we can do to the medians. Mrs. Hand
suggested to put in native plants.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Partnership with Friendswood Little League for Beautification Project at Renwick Park
**Fig Bed and Art Work in Stevenson: The art piece is going on Shadwell and FM518, Kaye stated that
the ladies that took the fig trees thanked the city for offering the trees. Will add a new fig tree to the
historical marker.
**June 1---School’s
Out for Summer Concert---Vocal Trash---7:00 pm: We have had several sponsors, Celebrity cruises and
Care now. We’re going to contact the school district on press release for the event,
**KTB Conference in Georgetown---June 10-13: Katy won the t-shirt contest from the Day Tripper, KTB
knows that Chet will be at the Don’t Mess with Texas luncheon,
**Webinar on Native Plants and Grant Application: Native grant is available in September, want to
add butterflies to the other side of the fence,
**New Teacher Gifts: Need teacher gifts, Katy asked if Natasha’s group could think of something for
the t-shirts gifts. Need something that is useful, coffee mugs, teacher’s emergency kits. Susan made a
motion to spend up to $600 on teacher’s gifts, Chiquita second the motion and the motion was
approved unanimously.

4. New Business : Stevenson Park Map, Katy informed the board of the new map we’re creating that
will help with layouts, events apps, signage, memorial trees, parks rentals, something we are needing
we are wanting to purchase the digital version of this. Approach FAST, for donations. Susan made a
motion to assist with the purchase of the new map, in the amount of $1000, Paul seconds the motion
and the motion passed unanimously. Sally thanked for James for fixing the fountain at Centennial Park.
5. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned 8:10pm.
