Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:32p.m. 2. Discussion/Approval September 25, 2018 minutes: Kaye made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Susan second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. 3. Communication/Guest: Sherry introduces Patty as a volunteer 4. Volunteer Hours: Sherry asked the board to turn in their volunteer hours. 5. Committee Reports Executive Committee: *Simple Recycling: Sherry reports the Facebook survey results. The results were positive from the citizens for the need and want for the Simple Recycle program. 97% of survey takers voted “Yes” they want the program. The opportunity to donate first will still be to places like Hope Village and Good Shepard. Keep Friendswood Beautiful board agreed to send a letter of recommendation to council in November. Patty makes a motion to recommend the program and Jeff approves. Toney will present back up documentation to council from other cities that are implementing the program. *Stevenson Park Art Sculpture: The sculpture was delivered but not permanently installed due to some work done by CenterPoint. After the work has been completed we will install the sculpture permanently closer to the corner of FM518 and Shadwell. *National Planting Day: Fall color went in at Stevenson Park in the flower beds. *Texas New Mexico Power Grant: The grant was submitted for the Pollinator Garden *Scout Patches: Sherry told the board *KFB Holiday Party: Sherry asked the board if they wanted to do a holiday party. They decided on Thursday, December 13. Brandee offered up her house for the party. Sherry told the board Keep Texas Beautiful/Susan Stephens: *Fall Sweep/Fall Haul (November 10th): Susan said were good for the event. Mary has a bunch Public Awareness/Natasha McAdoo: *Holiday Decorating Contest: Planning to send advertisements out starting around November 1. *Instagram – 100 Followers, Facebook, 2,257 likes. Education/Patty Steinke: *Bird House Article: Betty wrote a bird article and Mary’s student took pictures of the bird house. *Spring Workshop: Kaye got Karolyn Gephert to speak at the “Container Gardening” workshop. They will get a list together of things they will need for the workshop so that the board can vote to help fund the demonstration for the workshop. Jeff offers the fire station classroom and bay doors for the workshop just in case too many people show up. Beautification/Kaye Corey: *Pollinator Garden Update: Kaye updates the board on the Pollinator Garden and lets them know that the glass has been killed and pulled up in preparation for the Pollinator Garden. Next step is the edging around the edge of the garden. The city is working on installing the water and electricity for the water feature for the rest of the garden. Parks/FDEDC Report/Paul Marx: Update: Paul let the board know that construction has started on the dog park. JT informs the board that there was a bid for the old city park restroom building today, the demo for the pool restroom is starting soon, the kayak launch should be finished soon once the weather lets up. Paul lets the board know that the grant writer has finished the grant for FDEDC. Environmental Action/ Michael Fernandez: *Business Beautification Award: Michael suggests Friends Uncorked as the next winner. Susan motions and Michael approves. The board approves. *Recycle Club at FHS: Patty makes a motion to spend up to $400 for trash liners and gloves for recycle club. Paul seconds. 6. Median Maintenance: we have some clean up on the trees down 2351. Sherry let the board know that TXDot is going to make it right hopefully starting in December. 7. Santa in the Park/ Holiday Decorations *Booth Registration Closed @ 70 – Sherry let the board know that the booth registration is closed. *Sponsors Needed – We are still looking for sponsors for specific features for the event. Sponsorships from $500 to $5000. *Sign-up Sheets for Santa in the Park: Sherry asked the board to sign up for jobs starting on Thursday until the event on Saturday. *Tony Hopkins- The new “Big Voice for Santa in the Park” *Holiday Decorations begins Nov. 7 *City Hall Decorating on Nov. 12: Sherry passed around a sign up for people to help decorate City Hall for the Holidays. *Holiday Banners on Nov.13 *New Decorations: Sherry let the board know that some of the decorations need to be replaced and we got s quote from Bright Lights. Susan suggests to hold off on the garland on the bridge. The board had concerns about the quality of life expectancy for the new garland or tree. Todd votes to spend $850 for tree and Jeff second. Passed. Susan motions to get the tree topper and Tim approves. Passed. Patty motions to get pole garland Jeff second. Passed. Jeff suggested to suspend the bridge garland for another year. Susan seconds. Passed. -Tree in Front of City Hall ($850) -New Tree Topper ($900) -New Garland for Poles ($1,380) -New Garland for Bridge Rail ($920) 8. Fall Haul/November 10 *Sign-Up Sheet: Sherry asked the board to sign-up for a job for at Fall Haul 9. Tree Giveaway (January 19) Update: Kaye let the board know that we are offering a quick DIY class for the people who show up to receive a tree. Todd has another vendor interested in participating in the Tree Giveaway. He asked the board if we want to stick with the Alvin Tree Farm or go with a new vendor depending what trees they offer. Sherry give results from the Facebook survey. Positive results. Todd said it might be better to stick with Alvin Tree Farm and work with the other vendor on another project. Mary suggested we advertise for Alvin Tree Farm on the Tree Giveaway flyers. Todd said that Alvin Tree Farm is solely wholesale and will check to see if they want to be advertised. 10. New Business: Jeff asks if there is anything the board can do to help clean up the trash in the creeks. Is there something the board can do to support trash pick-up in the creeks. Possibly send a letter to Harris County or Galveston County. Sherry suggest to send a letter to Harris County about trash issues in the creeks. David Montz asks what the board does for downtown business that have overgrown landscape. Sherry informs him we have sent letters to owners and we report issues to city code officers. 11.
