3. Communications/Guest-Friends of Downtown Friendswood: Sherry introduces the Friends of
Downton Friendswood to the meeting. Brett informed the KFB board of a new project they are working
on, which is a carousel for Stevenson Park, hand crafted and painted. Brett showed a video to the board
of the carousel, from Carousel Works. They want to bring something special and nostalgic to
Friendswood, it will be 100% privately funded project and maintained. The site will be the FS#1 site
adjacent to city hall. They want to bring additional components to this area besides the carousel,
possible water feature, bronze statues, and walkways. Anderson & Associates is doing the first
conceptual plan for the site. Tom asked about the property itself, will the city donate it? Brett stated we
would lease it. Ideas like adding bronze statues of fireman, stone horse with the names of donors
engraved on them. Kimberly asked about the parking, Brett said the site will have approximately 32
parking spaces.
A. Volunteers hours: Sherry requested to have the board members submit their hours.
B. Committee Reports
**Executive Committee-Sherry/Susan/Natasha: Sherry stated she talked to James and Kimberly and
we’re going to be looking selectively on new projects were going to do, sometimes the partnerships are
one sided. We’re going to look at a lot of things were involved in.
**Public Awareness-Natasha McAdoo: Jump start on the photo contest, prizes and sponsors. Natasha
had a suggestion for all of the committees; it would be nice to have the questions the grant is asking for
we can already have the numbers ready before we write the grant. Natasha informed the board that
Shawn has worked with the Recycle Club and helped mail the caps, Shawn has saved them a lot of
money. Medians, should we send a press release out, Kimberly stated no were not planning on sending
out a press release.
**Education—Patty Steinke: Patty informed the board that KFB educational subcommittee was going
to meet with the boy scouts Monday night. Once a month we’re going to come up with information on
recycling. Patty asked for the contact for Waste Connections.
**Beautification—Kaye Corey: Kaye stated she wanted to thank Todd on helping with the tree
giveaway. Sherry and I are going to be sharing the responsibility of solar lighting and adopt a bed that
falls under this committee. The Rotary is supposed to head the butterfly project; we haven’t made a lot
of contact with them recently. Heritage Gardeners and the post office, they have helped maintain the
bed the Eagle Scout put in years abo but has not received cooperation from the Post Office. The last
time the group went to maintain the bed, all of the hoses were torn up, HG are kind of discouraged.
James stated to cut out the bed. Give up on the bed and have Heritage Gardeners take their sign from
the project.
**Parks-Tom Goodwin: Tom stated he met with staff, as we merge with KFB what we want to see a
revamping of the character traits that makes the parks board, the parks board. What we focused on our
list of duties and take a more active role for the parks. Use of the parks dedication funds to add
amenities to all parks. Lake Friendswood, council is driving to have a soft opening at the first of
February. The docks, board walk and exercising equipment have been installed. Parks subcommittee
will monitor the park until the lake is staffed. I will get the information to all of yall. OCP Dog Park is
going in, the Eagle Scout project has been great, and the dog park itself will take up the expanse of the
Merriwood soccer fields. Basketball pavilion will be opening soon, in March. Parks master plan, it’s time
for us to revamp it, new future goals, working with staff to bring that on. Due to limited parking at the
lake the pavilion will be rented in time increments. The exercise equip that is out there is heavy duty,
prime equipment. No motorize vehicle allowed in the lake.
**Environmental Action-Paul Marx: Paul stated we’re in the process of working on the composting
workshop, from Geobin, Hoping to schedule it for March 25, April 8th. The bins cost $25 a piece, total
cost is $1500. Charging for it like we did for the rainbarrell workshop. Paul requested for staff to put
out a survey. Katy will send out a survey out next week. We will determine on how many bins to get
from the response. The library said their conference room is available to use that day. The presentation
is 45 minutes long, 11am would be a good time.

working with the contractor on adding sod to the FM518 medians. James asked the board if their
interested in funding the sod, Patty stated we would like a number first. Patty asked about the FM2351
medians. We’re waiting on the spring. Also on FM2351 you cannot see the oncoming traffic when
turning at the medians, the roses are too high.
