award; Sherry informed the group that KFB will be eligible to submit an application next year.

whom to award as the winners for the Downtown decoration contest. She received a few emails from

**Education-Patty Steinke (upcoming workshop)-Patty informed the group that she approached the
Goddard school on doing an educational presentation. KFB will be doing an educational presentation to
the Girl Scouts on January, 30 at Mary Queen Church.
**Beautification-Kaye Corey (Update on Butterfly Project)-Kaye Corey informed the board that the
Rotary wanted to partner with KFB on adding a butterfly garden near the bridge at Old City Park. Kaye
informed the board that Kim and I attended a butterfly garden presentation at the Houston Zoo last
month, we met a lady there named Barbara Wiley, made contact with her to set up a meeting at the
Chamber with the Rotary Club to discuss using the natural area near the bridge at Old City Park for a
monarch butterfly garden. We qualify for a grant and will need to start the grant application process
soon, Kaye encourage other groups to help out. Kaye stated I’m still thinking it’s a Rotary project and I
hope it works out. Haven’t heard anything from the Wartersmart ladies and still waiting on that. We’re
adding hard wired poles for lighting at the bridge at Old City Park.
**Parks-Tom Goodwin (Friendswood Lake Opening)-Tom stated the lake is coming along great. They
had added the dock and the canoe launch. The neatest thing about the dock & kayak launching system
that both are wheel chaired bound. We’re shooting for spring break to open the lake. Waiting on West
Ranch to start on the pavilion. Tom stated we need to discuss the actual ribbon cutting; I would like to
have the pavilion named after Mr. Krch. The basketball pavilion is coming along nicely. Sherry asked
about parking concerns out there. James stated that theirs 41 spaces out there, we’re not planning any
events there, not moving Kidfish out there due to lack of parking. The pavilion can be reserved. We
would limit the attendance to the pavilion.
**Environmental Action-Paul Marx (Composting workshop): The city did not receive the Geobin;
Tammy asked if you want to go forward for the February 18th workshop? Tammy stated for 50 Geobin
its $1500, no cost for the presenter. Sherry asked if the February date the only date that is available,
Tammy stated she will need to check on that. Sherry stated, let’s wait to get the Geobin and possibly
schedule it later. Free workshop $25 a Geobin. Should we charge people for the workshop? Board
thought we should charge them. Katy will send out a survey on composting once we receive the Geobin.
C. Median Maintenance/Grant Project/TxDOT Update and FM2351 update: Sherry stated we have
seen some work done on the FM518 medians. James stated that the planting is underway, their
working to get it done by Christmas. The rained has slowed them down but they should be back out
there tomorrow. We met with Cornerstone and they have their new marching orders on getting
FM2351 back to what they looks like before. Irrigation has been repaired.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Fall Haul, Kimberly informed the board that 660 people attended the event, and we collected $705
from garage sale. We did have an issue; the manager from the trailer park, Hut Mobile Park on
Woodlawn stated they were turned away. Waste Solutions stated they told them the event is
residential, not a commercial event. James explained to her that it wasn’t KFB that turned her away but
Waste Solutions and he would talk to them soon. He’s going to recommend letting the mobile home to
be an exception. Waste Connections have recommended carding everyone who attends the event and
only let residents attend and participate in the event. KFB doesn’t believe that the 10 or 15% non-
residents that participate are worth the trouble. Susan stated we’re trying to keep items out of the
landfill, why would we turn people away.
**Sign-up for Dec 13 KFB Christmas Party at McAdoo’s: Katy informed the board that the Christmas
party is at the McAdoo’s on the 13th, dress is casual, and it’s a potluck. Katy has a list of what everyone
