Meeting Minutes
August 23, 2016

1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30p.m.
2. Discussion/Approval of June 28, 2016 minutes: Martha made a motion to approve the
minutes as presented, Natasha second the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
3. Communications/Guests
A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry informed the group to turn in their volunteer hours.
B. Committee Reports
**Executive Committee---Sherry/Susan/Natasha (August 30 @ 10:30AM/Ex. Meeting
for SIP)
**Public Awareness---Natasha McAdoo-Natasha suggested starting having welcome
packets in utility billing with information on recycling. Post information on KFB’s
Facebook page as well. Kimberly stated she will look into this and get with
Administrative Services finance director to see if we could implement this program
again.
**Education—Patty Steinke-
**Beautification---Kaye Corey
**Parks—Tom Goodwin Dog Park event, September 16th and bridge ribbon cutting-
Sherry informed the group that she encourages everyone to attend the Bark For Your
Park event in Stevenson Park on September 16th.
**Environmental Action—Paul Marx-Paul informed the group that the KFB
Beautification sign has been awarded to Masa Sushi and the sign in front of their
restaurant now.
C. Median Maintenance/Grant Project/TxDOT Update on FM518 and Replanting on
FM2351: Sherry informed the group that the project is scheduled to start in October. At the
next council meeting, KFB is giving an award to Parks staff, Paul Stacy for keeping the crepe
myrtles alive. Paul installed above group irrigation, put water bags on all the trees and tended
to them so they all would survive. Another meeting with TXDOT is scheduled for October for
the preconstruction meeting before breaking ground starts. FM2351 irrigation has been fixed
and sod is scheduled to be laid next week.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Pearland Recycling Center Visit: Sherry informed the group that Katy, Kimberly and I
toured the Pearland Recycling Center. She encourage everyone to visit the site, you
would be amazed on what they have to offer. There is a fee for Friendswood residents
to dispose of hazardous waste.
**Water Smart Update on Sites- Sites has been submitted to Water Smart, just waiting
now.
**Rain Barrel Workshop Update: Sherry informed the group that Council Chambers
was full of people. Kimberly will check with Katy on the contest and post the event on
Facebook.
**Friends of Downtown Friendswood: Martha informed the group that the Friends of
Downtown Friendswood wanted KFB to volunteer at the Canoe Safari event. Sherry
informed Martha to get more information on this.
**Tree Giveaway (What kind of trees?): Board discussed adding more trees this year to
the event, possibly smaller trees so we can get more. Kimberly informed the group that
residents are now used to getting the larger trees and thought we should keep the same
15 gallon trees we usually get. Todd volunteered to get with Alvin Tree Farm and see
what they had available.
**Caden Fischer/Dog Park Project: James informed the group that the city has won at
$25,000 for the new dog park and Caden has collected $15,000.
**Update on Banners-Kimberly informed the group that we have not received anything
yet from Karen as of today.
**Fall Haul---November 12th: Sherry informed the group to add their date to their
calendar. The garage sale will possibly be under the basketball pavilion this year. Susan
suggested adding electronic recycling this year. Kimberly informed her that we have
contacted several companies and they are now charging for these services.
**Santa in the Park
**Board Members Update: Katie and Shawn are on the September agenda.
**Budget Considerations (Current Needs/$8000 in budget):
*Santa Costume: Board discussed purchasing a Santa costume for the Santa we have
been having work our events. Board decided to wait and discuss with the individual that
plays Santa first. Jeff Smith offered the volunteer fire departments Santa costumes if
needed.
*Additional Solar Lights in Stevenson (15 more needed): Board would like to add 4
more lights in the park at $1750 each. Patty made a motion to purchase 3 more solar
lights for Stevenson Park, Paul second the motion and the motion was approved
unanimously. Susan made a motion to purchase a solar light on behalf of Santa (the
couple who plays Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa in the Park for the past 4 years), Martha
seconds the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
*Booklets/Materials for Educational Workshops-Patty made a motion to spend up to
$1,000 on educational material for KFB’s workshops, Susan second the motion and the
motion passed unanimously.
*Christmas Decorations for Front of City Hall-Kimberly checked on this, not able to get
décor until next year, too late to order but Baybrook Mall has given us permission to use
the same deer’s as they have in the new portion of the mall. The Christmas décor
vendor said it’s unusual but nice to know baybrook said it was ok with letting us use the
same décor. Kimberly will get a quote for next year’s event.
*Other Suggestions: Susan suggested purchasing more Keep Texas Beautiful affiliate
signs, Susan made a motion to purchase 4 more KTB affiliate signs, Patty second the
motion and the motion passed unanimously.
E. New Business
**Budget Considerations for 2016-2017: Sherry informed Committee chairs to have
their budget considerations ready for the September 17th meeting.
F. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
