1. Call to order: Called to order 6:31pm.
2. Discussion/approval of August 25, 2015: Patty made a motion to approve the minutes
as presented, Martha second and the motion passed unanimously.
3. Communications/Guest: Rhonda Neel introduced herself as the liaison for the P & Z
Committee; she said she’s planning on attending the monthly KFB meetings. Sherry
stated we’re delighted to have a P & Z Liasion attend our meetings. Brett Banfield who
is on CEDC and a lifelong Friendswood resident. Brett stated he’s here to talk about
Friends of Downtown Friendswood, we’re a brand new association, and Martha is on
the committee as well. We have over 70 members already, we’re having a meeting next
Tuesday at the Brizendine’s, and he invited the board to attend. We want to go to
council with solutions, there’s a lot of potential for our downtown area. Lots of other
Friendswood organizations are on board and the group wants to hear what everyone
wants for the downtown area. We’re hoping to partner with you in the future. He said
to call him anytime, he’s happy to listen. Todd stated we have a vision, and how is this
going to come about. Everyone wants to do it but we don’t know how to do it. Over 100
cities in Texas are going thru the same thing with revitalizing their downtown area. He
also stated that P & Z met recently to discuss downtown requirements.
A. Volunteers Hours: Sherry informed the board to turn in their hours.
B. Median Maintenance/Fall Plans: Kimberly is going to meet with Cornerstone soon to
coordinate the planting of fall color in Stevenson Park. Kaye Corey stated that the
median at the Public Safety Building is looking bad looks like it’s not getting water. Patty
asked who maintains the Blackhawk medians. James stated that the city mow’s it but
that’s it, we only trim trees for safety purposes.
C. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Update on 518 TxDOT Grant Project: Sherry informed the group that we will be meeting
with TxDOT next month on the preliminary drawings.
**Fall Haul and Spring Sparkle (2nd Saturday in November and 2nd Saturday in April for net
four years Nov 14 and April 9 this year: Kimberly informed the group that everything is
confirmed for the event. Tri-Star will charge $450 for shredding services and JSC has agreed to
sponsor the shredding event.
**Tree Giveaway-January 16, 2016: Kimberly has secured 120 trees at $15 for 15 gallon trees;
KFB has requested Redbuds, Red oaks, Magnolias and Mexican oaks.
**FHS Recycling Club Report: Katy informed the group that she has supplied the group with 6
new recycle bins, a box of gloves a $100 check from Keep Texas Beautiful and 2 Keep Texas
Beautiful awards from the conference.
**Parks Board to Regroup under KFB: James stated that there is discussion on the parks board
being merged with KFB, he has talked to the council liaison for the Parks board and he is good
with it. The group deals with parks and athletics, but the athletics portion will be a totally
separate group. Kaye asked if KFB will have a say so on the other parks, James stated yes.
**Volunteers signing up with KFB will be invited to join our meeting: Sherry stated that
volunteers will now be sent an invite to each of the KFB board meetings.
**Restructuring of KFB: Sherry informed the board that she will stay on the board as chair but
their will be restructuring of the board, Sherry informed the group that Natasha will inform the
board of the change. Natasha passed forms for the board members to fill out, a KFB board
member profile which breaks down the areas that the board would like to volunteer with and
she also passed out the board member commitment form which list responsibilities of the
board members which includes meeting attendance, subcommittees, be active and participate
other events. Patty suggests breaking down events. Natasha informed the board to please turn
in your forms and we’ll mail out the forms to those who did not attend tonight.
D. Committees
Santa in the Park-December 12: Sherry stated we have 2 chairpersons for Santa in the
park, Todd and Paul. Todd stated Kim and Katy gave a very nice presentation at HomeTown
Bank. HomeTown Bank is on board this year also there was an idea brought up that we’re
going to have a downtown business decorating contest, the judges will be the board
members. Judging will take place December 4-8th and the announcement will be done at
Santa in the park. Kimberly stated that we’re 90% done with the event and we mailed out
the sponsor letters today. James met with the fireworks company and they stated they will
give us a discount since we’re using the same music or we can add extra option to the show.
Kaye suggested adding a projected light to sparkle on City Hall for Christmas.
E. New Business: Kimberly informed the board that we were able to purchase a popup
tent, a set of Big Belly solar trash compactors for Stevenson Park, a new table cloth for
KFB and landscape the front of city hall. Sherry informed the board to email suggestions
of the beautification award.
F. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
