HomeMy WebLinkAboutKFB Minutes 2015-01-27Keep Friendswood Beautiful Board Meeting Minutes January 27, 2015 Board members in attendance: Katy Blanchard Natasha McAdoo Sherry Goen Todd Mendenhall Paul Marx Kaye Corey Kate Cross Patty Steinke Martha Cotton James Toney, Director of Park and Recreation Kimberly Ramirez, Staff 1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm. 2. Discussion/approval of December 6, 2014 minutes: Paul made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Martha seconds the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. 3. Communications/Guest: N/A A. Volunteer hours: Sherry reminded everyone to turn in their hours to her. B. Median Maintenance: Board members informed staff that the solar lights on the entrance signs at 2351 and 518 are out. James stated that they did the walk thru for the newly landscaped FM 2351 medians, addressed issues and contractor will be fixing. Patty asked about the status on the bridges on FM2351 and having them power washed. James stated he still working on that but we are working with a company that uses a chemical that is sprayed on the building and has a power wash effect. KFB asked to get a quote on using that chemical for the bridges. C. Keep Friendswood Beautiful **Keep America Beautiful: Kimberly stated that she will be working on this next month. **Grant writing progress: Sherry stated that the grant is finished Natasha and Susan Stephens did a fantastic job editing and were ready to submit. We'll keep our fingers cross. Kaye stated that the junior master gardeners are nominated for a state award. **Entrance sign update: James stated that the ball has been started, we need to get with a surveying company and we're waiting for proposals, then it will go to council and then to the land owner. **Rain barrel program: KFB is thinking about the rain barrel program, James stated that we could ask for sponsors. James stated he thinks it’s a great idea. Board suggested coming back next month to discuss further details and try to obtain a sponsor. Get more info from Cathy. **Recognition plaques delivered to Hometown Amoco, Allstate: The plaques have been delivered to all of our sponsors. **FISD Board presentation update January 12: Sherry stated that the recycling club was there and at least 20 to 25 kids attended the meeting. They made us very proud and Sherry thanked Katy for all she has done **Santa in the Park Report: Sherry stated that the event was great. **Facebook Boost $200: Martha made a motion to approve the cost of boosting facebook and second by Natasha. D. Committees **Business Beautification Award Paul stated that the 4th quarter was awarded last week and suggested to skip the 1st quarter since the award was given out so late. **Tree Giveaway Report: Patty stated that she went to the hangar for a Boy Scout event and stated the last tree was picked up. We sent out a thank you letter to the Alvin tree farm. Kaye stated that theirs a tree conservatory that gives away trees to organizations they might give us some trees to what we already give out. E. New Business: Sherry stated we have an elementary school art contest, sponsored by HEB. **Volunteer guidebook discussion and acknowledgement: James handed out the new volunteer guidebook and stated that each board member needed to sign it and return to him.
