3. Committees/Guest: Brett Banfield attended the meeting to update KFB with what FDFA has
been up to since the last time he came to KFB in September. He handed out to the board that
the downtown enhancement projects that FDFA’s new sub-committees have taken on. Brett
informed KFB on Friendswood groups that they want to partner with. Vacant buildings they
want to try to make them not look vacant. Local heroes park, have a small park where you
honor your local heroes. City Wi-Fi, it would be a major thing it would draw people to that
area. People want to see water features and fountains. Regional parking could be a huge
benefit, their looking at the old city hall location for regional parking. Utility poles, burying the
poles well it’s not doable it takes 8 million dollars to do that. The group wants to exercise not
to move forward with any project without KFB’s blessing. Bret invited the board to the next
meeting and to email him anytime for any questions. He informed the group of the event this
Saturday, it’s a membership event. Sherry asked about the March event, which is the March
6th. Brett stated he would like to check in every few months to keep the board updated. The
next guest was Bart Beale attended the meeting to inform the group that he looked at the
Friendswood Dr medians that will be demolished before the TxDOT project starts. He stated
that he could remove trees and transplant them in Centennial in the medians and then be able
to take them out when a crepe needs to be replaced at the medians or park land. He usually
does this around 20 times a year for schools and other organizations. Since yall have around
$100,000 worth of crepe myrtles in your medians he recommends saving some of them and
transplanting them or give them away to residents. He can send us quote on removing and
transplanting them. Sherry asked where else could the trees go. James stated that we could
transplant them at the sports park. Bart had pictures of trees that he removed and
transplanted at other Cities. Bart asked if they want them to write up a proposal to save all of
them. KFB stated yes. Plan on a quick meeting to vote on the quote once we receive it. Bart
stated he has a mobile irrigation system that will help keep them alive.
Kaye asked that we could pull the mulch around the oak trees in front of city hall. Chris had a
question about the entrance sign by League City; James stated he finally got the property
owner to sign the agreement to allow the city to put the new entrance sign coming in from
League City. The next thing is to have city staff to make sure the property is ready to go. The
sign will be lit along with landscaped.
A. Volunteer hours: Sherry informed the board to turn in their hours.
B. Median Maintenance/Fall Plans: Todd showed the board a sample of auto cad software
that you could use to draw up the renditions for the Friendswood Dr medians. We’ll ask Dana
with TxDOT if he could do the same.
