Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm. 2. Discussion/approval of October 27, 2015 minutes: Martha made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Tom second the minutes and the motion was approved unanimously. 3. Committees/Guest: Brett Banfield attended the meeting to update KFB with what FDFA has been up to since the last time he came to KFB in September. He handed out to the board that the downtown enhancement projects that FDFA’s new sub-committees have taken on. Brett informed KFB on Friendswood groups that they want to partner with. Vacant buildings they want to try to make them not look vacant. Local heroes park, have a small park where you honor your local heroes. City Wi-Fi, it would be a major thing it would draw people to that area. People want to see water features and fountains. Regional parking could be a huge benefit, their looking at the old city hall location for regional parking. Utility poles, burying the poles well it’s not doable it takes 8 million dollars to do that. The group wants to exercise not to move forward with any project without KFB’s blessing. Bret invited the board to the next meeting and to email him anytime for any questions. He informed the group of the event this Saturday, it’s a membership event. Sherry asked about the March event, which is the March 6th. Brett stated he would like to check in every few months to keep the board updated. The next guest was Bart Beale attended the meeting to inform the group that he looked at the Friendswood Dr medians that will be demolished before the TxDOT project starts. He stated that he could remove trees and transplant them in Centennial in the medians and then be able to take them out when a crepe needs to be replaced at the medians or park land. He usually does this around 20 times a year for schools and other organizations. Since yall have around $100,000 worth of crepe myrtles in your medians he recommends saving some of them and transplanting them or give them away to residents. He can send us quote on removing and transplanting them. Sherry asked where else could the trees go. James stated that we could transplant them at the sports park. Bart had pictures of trees that he removed and transplanted at other Cities. Bart asked if they want them to write up a proposal to save all of them. KFB stated yes. Plan on a quick meeting to vote on the quote once we receive it. Bart stated he has a mobile irrigation system that will help keep them alive. Kaye asked that we could pull the mulch around the oak trees in front of city hall. Chris had a question about the entrance sign by League City; James stated he finally got the property owner to sign the agreement to allow the city to put the new entrance sign coming in from League City. The next thing is to have city staff to make sure the property is ready to go. The sign will be lit along with landscaped. A. Volunteer hours: Sherry informed the board to turn in their hours. B. Median Maintenance/Fall Plans: Todd showed the board a sample of auto cad software that you could use to draw up the renditions for the Friendswood Dr medians. We’ll ask Dana with TxDOT if he could do the same. C. Keep Friendswood Beautiful Update on 518 TxDOT grant project: We are scheduled to meet with TxDOT on December 15th at 10am. Fall Haul Report Susan suggested to stop advertises that we will no longer accept donations at 2pm from future events. Presentation to Heritage Gardeners on Dec 3rd at 11am: Sherry is making a presentation at Heritage Gardeners at 11am. Sherry asked if anyone wants to join me you can. Tree giveaway: Trees are ordered and ready to go for January 16th. FHS recycling club report: Katy stated we’re trying to get a dumpster for them and we had communicated with progressive on when they will deliver it but not sure when. Committee assignments finalized: We spent some time in October to reorganize the board. The committee chairman will need to think of some goals and things for the January meeting. If you haven’t signed up for a committee let me know which of these committees you would like to work on. Executive committee-Sherry Goen and Susan Stephens Public awareness committee- Natasha McAdoo and Kate Cross Education committee- Patty Steinke Beautification committee- Kaye Corey Environmental action committee- Paul Marx Parks committee-Tom Goodwin Discussion of alcohol consumption at Lake Friendswood: Tom wants to recommend that no consumption of alcohol will be allowed at Lake Friendswood. Tom asked if we could get finalization on access to park dedication funds for the transplant of trees from the FM518 medians. Sherry asked are we going to change this rule for all the parks, James stated that only the pool has the rule that no alcohol is not allowed. Tom made a recommendation from Keep Friendswood Beautiful that there will be no alcohol consumption and Lake Friendswood. Discussion the sale of alcohol and city parks: Table D. Committees Santa in the park-December 12-Board discussed Job assignments, event layout and details on the event. Downtown business decorating contest: KFB board will be judged between December 4-8th. Results will be announced at the Santa in the Park event. Beautification award selection: E. New business Next meeting: Tuesday January 26 at City Hall F.
