HomeMy WebLinkAboutKFB Minutes 2014-06-17Keep Friendswood Beautiful Board Meeting Minutes June 17, 2014 Board Members in Attendance: Katy Blanchard Sherry Goen Kaye Corey Frank Garza Patty Steinke Susan Stephens Todd Mendenhall Paul Marx Chris Chism James Toney, Director of Community Services Pat McGinnis, Council Kimberly Ramirez, Staff 1. Call to order: The meeting was call to order at 6:37 pm. 2. Discussion/approval of May 27, 2014 minutes: Todd made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Frank second the motion and the motion passed unanimously 3. Communications/Guest: A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry informed the group to turn in their hours. B. Median Maintenance/Landscaping Plan Update: Todd stated his starting this Thursday on landscaping the medians on FM518, he asked what he needs to do as far as permits. James stated you can park on the median or park in the grass or in Stevenson across the street from the median, as long as you’re not in the roadway. James gave Todd a departmental permit. Todd asked what color do you want to go with, he stated he wanted to have it done by the 4th and he's going to red roses, white Hawthorne, Todd stated the bright pink crepe myrtle will grow into a shade tree. Katy will be working on the flyer to promote the bed. Kimberly stated we're going with the UV color signs which are inexpensive and leave the signs up for no more than 3 months. James suggested putting a plaque out at Stevenson and in City Hall. Corey has agreed to sponsor the third bed. Todd stated that it would be ok to have Corey landscape his own bed as long as he follows the specs. Patty stated she would like to have Manor Maintenance to do the remainder of the beds. Patty nominates Manor Maintenance to install our new beds on FM518, excluding the one sponsored by Cornerstone, Susan second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Kaye asked if the sponsors can pick and choose which median to landscape, Todd stated we're going in order. We’ll get a proof of the sign and send to the board members. Patty made a motion to raise the bed sponsorship cost per bed from $2073 to $2200 to include the cost of signage, Katy second the motion and the motion was passed unanimously. C. Keep Friendswood Beautiful KTB Conference: Sherry, Kim and Katy are attending the conference James, Michael and Drew will be joining us at the Wednesday luncheon. Entrance Sign Land Acquisition Update: James stated it has been entered as a decision package for next year’s budget. KFB Recognition Plaque to Sponsors-Criteria: Sherry informed the group on the list for the sponsor categories. James stated the largest one should be a Community Sponsor, like Hometown Bank The Helper sponsorship (Volunteers, Churches will receive a Figgy Stuff Animal Neighbor Sponsor, ($100-$499) will receive a paper weight, Friend Sponsor, ($500-$999) receive a plaque, Partner Sponsor, $1,000-$4999) receive a crystal plaque Community Sponsor ($4999 and above) receives a clock. Katy stated she would look at prices for the crystal. July 4th Activities: Figgy will be participate in the parade. Ben Strope/Eagle Scout Project: Ben Strope wasn’t able to attend the meeting but he left his project presentation for the board to see. He had 2 options. The board chose option 1. Susan made a motion to give the Eagle Scout $200 for his Eagle Scout project and we appreciates his endeavor, Katy second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. The board agreed to help with the install of the landscaping when Ben decides on a date. Committees: Business Beautification Award: Dance Expressions will receive the 3rd quarter Beautification Award. E. New Business: Sherry asked the board if they want to have a July meeting, Patty made a motion not to have a July Mtg and reconvene in August, Susan seconds the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 4.
