1. Called to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm.
2. Discussion/approval of October 28, 2014 minutes: Susan made a motion to approve the
minutes as presented, Paul second the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
3. Communications/Guests/New Board Members
A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry informed the board to turn in their hours.
B. Median Maintenance/Landscaping Plan Update Report (Todd) James informed
the board that there was an accident at the newly landscaped medians on 518 and it has been
repaired and insurance has been collected for the expense of the repair.
C. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Keep America Beautiful: Kimberly informed the board that she will register KFB for the Keep
American Beautiful membership in January.
**Rain Barrel Program in July (Cathy Gray): Cathy Gray suggested doing the Rain barrel
program in July; board suggested doing this on a different month.
**Entrance sign update James stated that he will meet with the homeowner this month and
will be doing a written contract and present to council.
**Update on Texas/new Mexico power up grant (Susan): NA
**Recognition plaques HomeTown, Amoco, Allstate, and VARC: We will be giving HomeTown
a crystal plaque their sponsorship and desk clocks for the other sponsors.
**Update on Recycling bowl/Recycling supply request: Katy stated that the recycling bowl is
over and the results are given in February and everything is up to date just waiting for the
results.
**Update on Recycling club plaque award Dec 4: Sherry and Katy awarded the club last
Thursday thanking them for their sponsorship along with the supplies.
**FISD board presentation: James stated that Trish would like for us to present at the January
meeting on the 12th they are going to present the video to the FISD school board and KFB
would like to nominate them for a KTB Youth award.
**Grant meeting December 18 from 10-1: Sherry stated we will be having our first meeting
from 10-1 anyone is invited to come and we will be critiquing from the grant from last year. We
want to try to get a lot of new things in.
D. Committees
**Business Beautification Award: Paul has been trying to present the award but is unable to
get in touch with them. James stated he'll take care of it.
**Santa in the Park December 13: Sherry stated that the P & R Dept. has been working really
hard getting everything ready.
**Recycled ornament decoration booth: Katy stated that we will have gingerbread and
stockings we have all sorts of stuff to decorate with. We talked about doing cd, we scrapped
that project. Katy stated they have holes punched in already. We have 600 made.
**Volunteer assignments: Board signed up for the areas they would like to work that night.
**What time and where and what to wear: Board needs to be at the park at 2:30pm and wear
your Santa in the Park t-shirt with a Santa hat.
**Booth assignments (Santa tickets, KFB children’s booth, food pantry and Blue Santa other):
Kimberly informed the group that everything is set and ready for the event.
**Setup jobs: Parks and Recreation will be setting up the event that day.
**Youth assignments: We have 50 youth volunteers that will be helping with the snow hill and
the KFB Recycle Ornament Booth.
**Map of activity locations vendor’s performers: Kimberly stated that she has done the layout
and a map will be readily available to board at the KFB booth during the event.
**Money and Ticket Wristbands: The KFB Booth will have $800 in change and 1,000
wristbands.
**Agenda for the tree lighting: Kimberly informed the board that we will be using the same
Santa we’re using for the day portion for the tree lighting as well. We’re going to let him rest
for an hour and bring him back out for the tree lighting where Sherry will say a few words and
Shirley Lange will emcee the event and recognizing our sponsors then closing with where
Councilman McGinnis doing the countdown for the fireworks and then Santa will make his exit.
The tree lighting is tied into the firework which is choreographed to music; after the fireworks
are done the tree will be lit. The park lights will be turned back on and the rides will continue
until 8pm. The live Band will perform from 3-6 in between that we have some intermission
with local acts; dance groups and a youth singing duo.
E. New Business:
**Tree giveaway-January 17-City Hall 8am: Trees have been ordered and we will be offering
magnolias and Texas redbuds total of 125 trees.
Sherry wants to pass on to the crew that we thank you for all that yall do. Patty asked if there’s
any update on the power washing of the bridges of FM2351. James stated we’re working with
TxDOT on this one.
Kaye asked why we don’t have Christmas themed street banners on FM518. Kimberly stated
that we will have new banners made and displayed next year.
Katy stated she found some recycling containers and would be perfect to add at the high school
stadium we can put our logo on it and the mustang logo. Total cost of the cans are $250, we
can use for other events as well. She saw these at Angleton which are sponsored by Keep
Angleton Beautiful and HEB. Sherry asked if we can use them for the board presentation. Patty
made a motion to purchase a football recycle containers for $225 with possibly free shipping
Chris second and the motion passed.
4. Meeting adjourned: The meeting was adjourned at 7:28pm.
