Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. 2. Discussion/approval of August 26, 2014 minutes Susan made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Frank second and the motion was approved unanimously. 3. Communications/Guest: Katy introduce the FISD Recycling Club with the students and Ms. Woodley, Katy stated this partnership is one more thing we can add to our list towards our grant, it’s awesome that they want to work with us, they do a lot of work just like we do and probably more. Katy stated the recycling club is participating in the recycle bowl, once I heard what they’re doing I invited them to the meeting to show KFB what the club does. First off we have a video for you guys (they showed the video to the board). Membership has been different every year; we have 30 to 50 students participate every year. There is community service that we offer every year. Meetings are on Thursday after school from 4-5; the group is 6 years old. Club collects all recyclables from all the campuses, caps for the national council catholic women, and transport recyclables to Texas Best recycling. That’s the schools only way to recycle. Caps go to make wheel chairs. Club is needing 50 gallon black trash bags, black tarp bags, gloves etc., awards, traveling trash trophy, most recycling in each room, raffle prizes at each meeting, recycler of the week, goes to the person that does the best job. Greenies recognize people that do the hard work. Group gets paid for the cans not the bottles, need more cans. James Toney asked where the funding comes for your supplies does. Recycling club states from their Streamathon contest. Katy asked what happens if you don’t win, recycling club stated they do not get funded. Sherry asked what the reaction from the students from FISD. The reaction is very positive. School takes care of paper and we take care of cans and bottles. Sherry stated that Keep Friendswood Beautiful is so impressed with what yall do at the high school and would love to create a partnership. What would be your priorities? Club stated that getting supplies. Sherry stated we certainly appreciate you coming tonight. We’re going to look at the supply thing and will vote on that tonight. James introduced Aaron Hoot with the Skywonder Pyrotechnics Company that will do the fireworks show during the tree lighting. They will suggest some ideas for this year’s event. 2 minutes free of charge, we have a 30 second video to show you and we also customize the show for you. Kaye asked about a possible fire during the fireworks, Aaron stated that they use indoor pyrotechnics. James stated that we had extra fencing that was brought out to give us a good distance for safety reasons. James asked the board for suggestions of music. Katy suggests Carol of the Bells. A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry asked for group to turn in their hours. B. Median maintenance/landscaping plan update report: The board stated that the medians look great. Keep Friendswood Beautiful **Keep America Beautiful Membership ($3,000): Sherry discussed about the membership, Kimberly informed the board that the department would pitch in $500, possibly using $1,000 from the Fall Haul revenue and KFB kicks in $1500. Patty made a motion that we use $1,000 from Fall Haul, $500 from parks dept. and $1,500 from KFB. **New banners at centennial ($600): Banners are ordered and will be here soon. **Median @ Public Safety bld on FM 528 Irrigation: Sherry stated that there was an issue with irrigation. James stated that irrigation is complete and we will do the landscaping in house. Paul and Lalo have volunteered to start maintaining the Stevenson park beds. We also have talked to them to landscape the new pavilion. We’re going to go ahead and take advantage of the offer. Kaye would like to have some help with the junior gardener bed and will need irrigation. City had planted flowers in the pavilion bed and the water washed out some of the flowers, the junior gardeners replanted and the mulch was added later that week. Patty made a motion to spend $278 to purchase flowers to install at the public safety median by the parks employees. **Rain barrel and storm sewer programs Cathy Gray: table **Adopt a spot in Stevenson (3 new ones): Kimberly informed the board that 3 beds have been adopted. Signs are being made. 2 Girl Scout troops and the Friendswood High School transition class. **Entrance sign update: James stated that 1 sign has been approved at the League City entry sign; 4d signworx will install the sign. Susan requested to have the Bay Area sign repainted, we'll contact Sign City **Heritage gardeners/post office cleans up on Nov 2: Kaye stated that they have a team of ladies that want to do this; they want to sign to go up once their finished. **Update on Texas New Mexico power up grant Susan: table **Fall Haul a day Nov 8: Lunch, garage sale items, and wear new shirts 7:30-3, KFB has new shirts and we would like to wear the blue shirts. Need lunch from Pete. Katy will contact Pete. Ask him to donate lunch from the event. **Update on recycling bowl/recycling club supply request: Sherry stated that she thinks Katy is doing a really good job. Katy stated that they are unbelievably exited that there is someone out there to help them. They use the black trash bags as tarps, or unless you want to get tarps. Katy stated that we talked about giving them a plaque at a pep rally; Katy will be taking a lot of pictures. Paul stated that he wants to make a motion to spend $300 for the recycling club supplies. The club wants to let them know if their stream a thon to get votes. They are willing to do the football game but it has to be during halftime and not stay late. Katy would like to give a teacher a participation plaque. Katy is making a motion for awards costing $125 for well deserve students at FHS, Patty second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. D. Committees Business Beautification award has been awarded to Gatewood plaza: Paul got the plaque today. **Santa in the park: Waiting on an estimate for the holiday decorations, another group is taking over for Stacy with the exterior portion of Christmas installations. We’re still waiting on that. Susan will contact Walgreens on getting the candy canes for the event. KFB recycled ornament decoration booth: Katy stated that we could try to focus on recycling. Katy stated it would be a great idea to have arts in crafts for the children to decorate ornaments at their booth. We will need is cardboard boxes and used CD's. It’s an activity for free something that they take home and offer promoting recycling as well. Katy will be asking the recycling club to help. Patty made a motion to spend up to $200 for decorations for our arts and crafts booth, Katy second the motion and the motion was approved Katy stated that the recycling club might be interested in doing Figgy for the night.
