to approve the minutes as printed, Susan Stephens second the minutes and the
minutes were approved unanimously.
3. Communications/Guest: Sherry Goen introduced our guest, Pat Sullivan. Pat
is interested in joining the board. The board welcomed Pat. Sherry passed out
slips to vote for the naming of KFB’s new mascot, which is a squirrel. Sherry
stated that she would like to have the mascot interact with the schools before
the end of the school year. Sherry would also like to have Figgy at the Annual
report to council and summer camps this year. Next year we'll figure out ways
to use him.
A. Volunteer sheets: Sherry informed the board to turn in hours to her; she will
now be in charge of collecting the hours from the board and other volunteers.
B. Median Maintenance/Design for Medians/Plants/Irrigation: James
apologized to the board that he had to scrap the electronic reader board sign
for FM2351 due to TXDOT rejecting our request due to the location. He is now
working on sketches of the new reader board sign. The decision was made to
have the sign sit parallel to the road on FM 2351 at the Blackhawk median. The
board questioned how this will be funded. James informed the board that the
funds are coming from the EDA grant that funded the drainage project on
FM2351. James will go back to the group and give KFB’s suggestion to them
about the location and positioning of the new reader board sign.
C. Budget report: The board was given a budget report on what their current
budget balance was and future expenses the board will have from now and
until the end of the fiscal year. James asked Todd if $5,000 would be a fair
estimate on mulching FM518. Todd suggested using Pine mulch, he stated
anywhere between $50-$60 a yard. He stated hardwood mulch is cheap and
cost anywhere between $8-$20 a yard. Pine retains the moisture and has a
great look.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Matching Grant Application: Hidden Cove submitted an application for the
matching grant program. The board didn’t have enough information to
approve the application at this time.
**KTB Grant Scores: Sherry stated that the board scored a 96 on the KTB Grant
application; we did very well the only thing I can say is to keep trying. Sherry
stated that we keep doing what we’re doing and hope one of these times we'll
shine. Sherry asked if James Toney had any thoughts on it, he stated that the
only thing he suggested is to partner with FISD. He stated that the Historical
Society is already in the school system and he thinks KFB should tag along with
them and bring the squirrel with them. Susan D suggested we could present the
future of Friendswood and tie into with the history of Friendswood that is
presented by the FHS. Kaye stated that she has a curriculum from A & M for the
junior high school for the Heritage Gardeners Junior master gardeners. Sherry
stated we have a waste in place curriculum but we just haven’t got into the
schools. Sherry stated we need to look at what they’re doing so we can fit
some things in without taking too much classroom time.
**Spring Sparkle Report/Evaluation: Sherry stated that we had a great turnout
and was very pleased with everything. She thanked everyone for all their hard
work. James Toney asked if we should move the shredder to the back of the
park. Board suggested to bring a recycle dumpster to recycle the boxes from
the shredding. Possibly have the shredder at the junior high parking lot. James
Toney suggested to set up a scale to monitor the amount of shredding people
are bringing in. Paul stated that it could be a disadvantage in moving the
shredder truck because people wouldn’t see the garage sale. Susan D.
suggested moving the metal drop off elsewhere due to safety reasons and the
metal that was flying out of the dumpster when items were dumped in the metal
container.
**Continuing Education Workshops: Susan D stated that she put a lot of time
and effort into this and she had 20 people in 1 class and less than that in her
other classes. Sherry suggested having Susan D help with some classes at the
city’s summer camp.

board that he hasn’t received pictures from Friendswood Little League; he
should get something from them in a few weeks when the season is over

areas in the park. Loretta stated that half of the beds are adopted. Susan asked
if student council picked a spot, Sherry stated no. Anne Whitaker, who is charge
of the Historical museum has approached Sherry and is interested in having an
Adopt a spot at her location. She is looking into creating a community garden.
Loretta contacted Jim Roberts with The Church of Ladder Day Saints, but he
stated that he is interested in doing more than what she’s requesting. Loretta
contacted Anne on what she wanted. She was interested in a singular group
maintaining this garden. Sherry stated she will email her and have her contact
Loretta. Sherry informed the board that Loretta has donated a solar light in
Stevenson Park; everyone was very appreciative of this. We also obtained
another from money we received from this year’s events.

streetscape furniture, lighting and paving. Hopefully P & Z approves it so we can
have a little more uniformity. Paul stated that we're going to finalize the
guidelines and will get with James. James stated we need to get on the P & Z
agenda, read it out to them so it’s on record and then to from there. James
suggested having 2 choices on each item. Paul stated that Brett Banfield
contacted him last week; Mr. Banfield wants to conform to the new downtown
guidelines for the Huntingwood’s Apartments. It will set preset ant for the rest of
the businesses on Friendswood Dr.
