Called to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. 2. Discussion /approval of March 27, 2012 minutes: Paul Marx made a motion to approve the minutes as printed, Susan Stephens second the minutes and the minutes were approved unanimously. 3. Communications/Guest: Sherry Goen introduced our guest, Pat Sullivan. Pat is interested in joining the board. The board welcomed Pat. Sherry passed out slips to vote for the naming of KFB’s new mascot, which is a squirrel. Sherry stated that she would like to have the mascot interact with the schools before the end of the school year. Sherry would also like to have Figgy at the Annual report to council and summer camps this year. Next year we'll figure out ways to use him. A. Volunteer sheets: Sherry informed the board to turn in hours to her; she will now be in charge of collecting the hours from the board and other volunteers. B. Median Maintenance/Design for Medians/Plants/Irrigation: James apologized to the board that he had to scrap the electronic reader board sign for FM2351 due to TXDOT rejecting our request due to the location. He is now working on sketches of the new reader board sign. The decision was made to have the sign sit parallel to the road on FM 2351 at the Blackhawk median. The board questioned how this will be funded. James informed the board that the funds are coming from the EDA grant that funded the drainage project on FM2351. James will go back to the group and give KFB’s suggestion to them about the location and positioning of the new reader board sign. C. Budget report: The board was given a budget report on what their current budget balance was and future expenses the board will have from now and until the end of the fiscal year. James asked Todd if $5,000 would be a fair estimate on mulching FM518. Todd suggested using Pine mulch, he stated anywhere between $50-$60 a yard. He stated hardwood mulch is cheap and cost anywhere between $8-$20 a yard. Pine retains the moisture and has a great look. D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful **Matching Grant Application: Hidden Cove submitted an application for the matching grant program. The board didn’t have enough information to approve the application at this time. **KTB Grant Scores: Sherry stated that the board scored a 96 on the KTB Grant application; we did very well the only thing I can say is to keep trying. Sherry stated that we keep doing what we’re doing and hope one of these times we'll shine. Sherry asked if James Toney had any thoughts on it, he stated that the only thing he suggested is to partner with FISD. He stated that the Historical Society is already in the school system and he thinks KFB should tag along with them and bring the squirrel with them. Susan D suggested we could present the future of Friendswood and tie into with the history of Friendswood that is presented by the FHS. Kaye stated that she has a curriculum from A & M for the junior high school for the Heritage Gardeners Junior master gardeners. Sherry stated we have a waste in place curriculum but we just haven’t got into the schools. Sherry stated we need to look at what they’re doing so we can fit some things in without taking too much classroom time. **Spring Sparkle Report/Evaluation: Sherry stated that we had a great turnout and was very pleased with everything. She thanked everyone for all their hard work. James Toney asked if we should move the shredder to the back of the park. Board suggested to bring a recycle dumpster to recycle the boxes from the shredding. Possibly have the shredder at the junior high parking lot. James Toney suggested to set up a scale to monitor the amount of shredding people are bringing in. Paul stated that it could be a disadvantage in moving the shredder truck because people wouldn’t see the garage sale. Susan D. suggested moving the metal drop off elsewhere due to safety reasons and the metal that was flying out of the dumpster when items were dumped in the metal container. **Continuing Education Workshops: Susan D stated that she put a lot of time and effort into this and she had 20 people in 1 class and less than that in her other classes. Sherry suggested having Susan D help with some classes at the city’s summer camp. **Banners for Renwick Park/Pictures of Banners: James Toney informed the board that he hasn’t received pictures from Friendswood Little League; he should get something from them in a few weeks when the season is over **Affiliate Signs: James Toney stated he is still waiting on approval from TXDOT. **Adopt a Spot: Sherry stated we have several families that have adopted areas in the park. Loretta stated that half of the beds are adopted. Susan asked if student council picked a spot, Sherry stated no. Anne Whitaker, who is charge of the Historical museum has approached Sherry and is interested in having an Adopt a spot at her location. She is looking into creating a community garden. Loretta contacted Jim Roberts with The Church of Ladder Day Saints, but he stated that he is interested in doing more than what she’s requesting. Loretta contacted Anne on what she wanted. She was interested in a singular group maintaining this garden. Sherry stated she will email her and have her contact Loretta. Sherry informed the board that Loretta has donated a solar light in Stevenson Park; everyone was very appreciative of this. We also obtained another from money we received from this year’s events. **Mascot naming contest: The board tallied the slips for the mascot and the winning name is Figgy. **Summer camp-Visit from KFB Mascot/Recycling Project: The camp will have a visit from the mascot and a project during the camp session. E. Spring Sparkle Report/Evaluation: na F. Fig Fest Report: The profit was only $ 78.50 but the exposure was worth it. Susan S. suggested that we should bring the number down as far as the sandwiches to sell, we sold on average 50. Loretta suggested to have plastic bags on hand to help people put their order in without dropping everything. G. Committees: **Business Beautification Award: Received quote from Sign City, went ahead and ordered new sign and it will be made of aluminum. **Sub Committee on Downtown Development Report: Sherry stated that Paul has done an outstanding job putting this together and was ready for the final presentation. Paul stated that their trying to put together some guidelines with streetscape furniture, lighting and paving. Hopefully P & Z approves it so we can have a little more uniformity. Paul stated that we're going to finalize the guidelines and will get with James. James stated we need to get on the P & Z agenda, read it out to them so it’s on record and then to from there. James suggested having 2 choices on each item. Paul stated that Brett Banfield contacted him last week; Mr. Banfield wants to conform to the new downtown guidelines for the Huntingwood’s Apartments. It will set preset ant for the rest of the businesses on Friendswood Dr. **Park Pals Report: Loretta stated we had 4 in attendance at the first meeting. She stated that we will be raffling off a flat screen TV donated by Joyce Tolliver with Allstate Insurance. She stated that she would like to use the mascot during intermission. Loretta stated that she will have an empty bottle for donations. She is real pleased with the ladies that have joined the group. Carol Benson, Cindy Roberts, she donated another chime for Concert in the park, and we called Marcie Baecker, she was the one who adopted the first bed in Stevenson. Loretta stated that one of the ladies suggested starting making improvements to OCP. H. New Business: NA 4.
