HomeMy WebLinkAboutKFB Minutes 2012-10-23Keep Friendswood Beautiful Board Meeting October 23, 2012 Board member in attendance: Pat Sullivan Sherry Goen Kaye Corey Paul Marx Susan Stephens Martha Cotton Todd Mendenhall Whitney Chandler, guest Charles Richardson, guest James Toney, Director of Community Services Kimberly Ramirez, Staff 1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. Discussion/approval of September 25, 2012 minutes: Kaye Corey made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, Pat Sullivan seconded the minutes and the motion passed unanimously. 3. Communications guest: NA A. Volunteer sheets: Sherry informed the board to turn in their hours. B. Median Maintenance: James informed the board that he has met with 2 landscape companies for proposals on the installation of the FM2351 irrigation project. He received one quote and is waiting for the other quote from the other company, and then he wants to meet with the subcommittee again. James stated he would like to have solar controllers and sensors on the irrigation system. The company that he received a bid from does everything turnkey and prepares the RFP for bids. Kaye stated when we mulched around the trees, the mulch us too high on the base of the trees and the landscapers need to create a “donut” around the base. She stated it shouldn’t be more than 2 inches around the base of the tree. James stated he would drive by that area and look at that and have Cornerstone take care of it. Kaye also stated that there are also a few dead trees along FM2351; they need to be topped off. C. Stevenson Park Trees: James stated that were two weeks out to install the trees that were donated in Stevenson Park. James informed the board that 10 trees were installed at the public safety building. D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful **Retention Pond /Hunters Creek: James stated that he drove by last week and the retention pond was cut. **Banners for Renwick/FM2351: James stated that we are waiting for brackets to install the Renwick banners. The banners for FM2351 were shipped on the 19th of this month. **Solar lights: James stated we have a total of 7 lights installed. **Promotional items: Promotional items were ordered and received. **Educational project: James stated that Calvary chapel contracted the city wanting to do a community project. They want to be more involved with service projects in Friendswood. They have 60-70 college age student from California that will be doing a cleanup project on October 30th from 7-9am cleaning trenches at Centennial, cleaning Old City Park along with some repairs to the horse arena and painting the gazebo and all the beds a in Stevenson. We will provide water for the volunteers. Sherry informed the board that she has approached the Galloway school on presenting KFB’s educational Figgy books to their school. The Figgy books are in the process of being printed, Sherry stated she has seen the book and the company has done a good job. E. Fall Haul/America Recycle Day, November 3rd- Kaye asked if we can do another hazardous waste cleanup again and if we can apply for a grant so this can happen again. James stated he will be meeting with HGAC this week and see if we can find another solution for providing hazardous waste for our residents. Sherry stated that all board members that can attend need to be out there at 7:30am. You need to park at the junior high because we’re putting the shredding truck in the area where we used to park. A shuttle will be available. F. Committee **Santa in the park: Scheduled for December 8th: Sherry informed the board that the layout is ready and we’ll need a few more lights out there for the event. Mayor, council, KFB and Hometown Bank will be on stage for the tree lighting. **Holiday decorations: Decorating for City Hall will be on November 10th. Brite Lights of Houston is helping us decorate with new décor this year. **Halloween in the Park: Sherry informed the board members that are helping with this event to be at Stevenson Park by 5:15pm. **Business beautification award: Paul informed the board that the sign is now at Texas First Bank. **Downtown criteria report: Paul Marx stated that t2 items came up at the last meeting. P & Z did not vote to include the receptacles from the recommendation. Brick pavers were suggested to go with a concrete base sidewalk. There were members of P & Z that were very supportive and tried very hard to get everything that we recommended approved. Many members stated that this is a different downtown and were very appreciative of what Keep Friendswood Beautiful does and wants KFB to come back to their meetings. This topic will be approved after the public meeting. G. New business: Patty wants an update on street sweeping. James will talk to Cornerstone on possibly helping us with this issue. Kaye Corey wanted to express her thanks to the CS department on getting the front of City Hall power washed. 4.
