1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
2. Discussion/approval of October 25, and November 8, 2011: Patty Steinke made a motion
to approve the minutes as presented, Susan Stephens second the motion and the motion passed
unanimously.
3. Communications/Guest: Jeremy Sampson with TX Solar Resources and one 1 of 3 solar
lighting manufacturing companies in the United States. His company specializes in LED solar
lighting. Jeremy’s company is local and we would like to install solar lighting in Friendswood,
especially at Stevenson Park. He showed board the type of lights he has available to install.
A. Volunteer Hours: Sherry Goen informed the board to turn in their volunteer hours.
B. Median Maintenance: Kaye Corey stated that the lighting on the sign coming in from
Pearland is bad, it’s very pale. They landscaping isn’t that great either, we need to look at the
landscaping and we need to check the bulb. Paul stated that the bulb from FM2351 isn’t bright
either. James stated that he will look at it. Todd stated that the edging on the Friendswood Dr
medians varies and all the edging should be a half inch, the grass near the beds is squiggly and
should be 6 inches from the plants, some of the beds are too big and crooked. Sherry stated that we
do have plans to address that. Patty stated she agrees with Todd. The board would like to compare
beds with Pearland medians on Magnolia St. Sherry suggested getting with Corey on the ½ inches
on curbing and seeing about the alignment of the beds.
C. Santa in the Park: Gail stated that we’ll need help for KFB from 3-5 pm. Board was
informed to be at gazebo at 2:30 on Saturday in shirts and Santa hats for Santa in the Park. KFB will
help with Chick-Filet sales and coloring contest.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Waterway Cleanup in West Ranch Reserve Eagle Scout project: James Toney
informed the board that the project was completed and that the Eagle Scout will provide us
with pictures of his project.
**Workshop on Irrigation: NA
**Tree Giveaway Date-January 21, 2012: We did find trees at Gulf Coast Equine. The event
will start at 8am. Possibly have some education material inside city hall and have the tree pickup
outside behind city hall we will have between 250 & 200 trees available.
**Litter Force Presentation: Susan Stephens stated that the event was fun. TXDOT brought
their group to Westwood elementary school. The gym was filled with kids and they really enjoyed
the presentation. Patty stated it was professionally done. Loretta stated the vice principal
introduced KFB and informed the students that KFB cleaned up the nature center.
**Solar Lighting: See communications from guest.
**Sub Committee on Downtown Development: Paul Marx stated that the purpose for us getting
together is to have more consistency with the parks benches and pavers and try to get more
recommendations to the P & Z board.
E. Committee
**Business Beautification Award: Patty make a motion to nominated Shear Pleasure for the 1st
quarter Beautification award, Susan Stephens second the motion and the motion passed
unanimously.
**KFB Mascot Recommendations: Table
F. New Business: Jillian Olson, FHS student Liasion, stated that her teacher informed the
students that the recycle committee at the high school might be ending. Theirs only 8 students
involved in the whole school. Guest, Jeremy Sampson stated he would help sponsor an event for
them. Kaye stated that the edging in the entrance of city hall is moldy and needs to be changed out
to a dark red stone. Kaye stated the sidewalk is a mess and it looks terrible out there. Patty made
a motion to change out the dark red brick in the entrance of city hall from the white brick and
spending no more than $350.00, Susan Stephens second the motion and the motion passed
unanimously. Kaye stated that the political signs are put up 90 days before the election, theirs
signs trashing up Friendswood for more than 3 months. James Toney stated that they can’t be put
in the right away. James stated the new animal control facility and will be open on Monday.
We’re going to be putting an entrance sign in front of the building. Jeremy, with TSR will donate
lighting for the sign and Manor Maintenance will install the landscaping. The city will do the
irrigation and the sign. Susan Stephens stated that Friendswood has another adopt a highway.
