1. Call to order: The Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
2. Discussion/approval of November 30, 2010 minutes: Martha Cotton made a motion
to approve the November 30, 2010 minutes as presented, Susan Stephens second the
motion and the motion passed unanimously.
3. Communication/Guest: Arbor Day-Feb. 3-1:00pm, FISD Junior High
Sherry Goen informed the board that Keep Friendswood Beautiful has received the
Citizenship of the year award from the Chamber of Commerce. The award was received
at the Chamber banquet by Roger Roecker and James Toney.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding:
A. Volunteer Hours for November/December/January: John Merrifield passed
around the volunteer hour’s sheet for updates.
B. Median Maintenance/Rocks/Report from Corey: Board discussed Corey
Kirklands proposal to re-vamp 518 medians including curvature of beds, backflow
visibility, and mulching. Board will consider in spring with more information from
Corey. Median in front of Sonic, board discussed that the river rock will be more
attractive than pavers. Patty Steinke made a motion to fill median with moon rock, Paul
Marx seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
C. Clean up Letters: Board discussed that mowing occurred on Winding Way, but grass
is still on the street. The lot across from the library was mowed in December.
D. Keep Friendswood Beautiful
**Banners for Centennial Park/New City Banners: Banners for Centennial Park will
be ordered soon, each banner will have 1 of 5 pictures on each banner. Pricing for the
banners will be $678 plus $408 for brackets. Board stated that the banners on FM518 are
aging and some need to be replaced; but this item may have to wait due to the budget.
Board would like to add banners of downtown historical sites, museum, Perry house, City
hall. John Merrifield will chair with the following board members on the subcommittee;
Gail Rodgers, Martha Cotton, and Mary Stockwell will chair committee. Possibly
looking for sponsors to help fund the banners. Report back to the board in March.
**KFB liaison to KTB: Susan Stephens has volunteered to be the liaison for the board.
Have Susan work with Nick Haby for publicity for KFB.
**Grants Writing Process:-Susan Delcambre: Several board members have been
meeting every Friday getting the grant together and will be completing the grant and
mailing the grant out on Wednesday. Kimberly Ramirez will be getting the supplement
book together for the grant.
E. Tree Giveaway Report: 134 people attended the tree giveaway and collected $53 in
donations. All 800 seedling and 200 container trees were given out at the event.
F. Stevenson Park-Loretta Murphy: Loretta stated that all 5 beds have been planted
and the board stated Stevenson Park is looking great.
G. Positive Letters to Businesses for Property Improvement: Loretta Murphy
suggested Autumn Creek subdivision. .
H. Improvement letters: Board stated that the house on Shadowbend has been of great
concern and would and should be condemned.
I. Entrance Signs Update: James Toney stated administration was waiting for the
budget amendment for the funds to be moved to add lighting company as a vendor. Will
order this week and will install in house.
**Lighting:
J. KFB Website--Any Tweet or Website Ideas: Board suggested adding Tree
giveaway results, adding pictures and replacing pictures of old board member to KFB
website. Add the plaque and the picture from the chamber. Board requested to add KFB
icon on city’s web site home page.
K. Committees
**Business Beautification Award: Paul Marx and Frank Garza: Paul and Frank
awarded Amoco Credit Union the beautification award. At the March council meeting
KFB will award Gold star award to recipient, will need to order plaque from Engraphics.
**Santa in the Park-Report: Gail Rogers was very pleased with the shirts and would
like to order them again. The attendance was huge; she would like to contact Clear
Brook High School to fill in for the parade due to the Friendswood High School football
team participating in the playoffs. The Friendswood animal advocates, food vendors,
Charra dancers, and the recycle Christmas tree contest turned out great. Schools were
very pleased with the contest. Patty Steinke stated she was pleased with the
photographer. It took the same amount of time to get thru the Santa line with the
photographer as it did without. The Methodist church did an awesome job, possibly add
another group. The lighting in the park was an issue. Gail stated that the event was 100
% sponsored. Gail also stated that possibly locate the animals in another location
possibly tennis courts.
L. New Business:
**Budget Update--Kimberly Ramirez: Board looked over the budget and decided what
to spend the remainder balance for the next fiscal year. The idea of obtaining a new logo
for the board came up. Patty Steinke made a motion to have Inline graphixs develop a
logo proposal for KFB at a cost of $250, Mary Stockwell second the motion and the
motion passed unanimously. Patty Steinke made a motion to purchase a tablecloth at a
cost not to exceed $300, Mary Stockwell second the motion. Gail Rodgers made a
motion to purchase $500 worth of promotional items, Martha Cotton second the motion
and the motion passed unanimously. Entrance sign landscaping budget was discussed,
board wanted to wait to discuss the landscaping for the entrance signs and discuss at the
February meeting.
**Goals for 2011: Waterway cleanup, pavers for Stevenson park pavers, banners for
2011. Invite Karen Capps to an April meeting. Water feature has been nixed at
Stevenson Park. Work with FISD in recycling project. Involve boy scouts in
landscaping project in Stevenson Park. Fix walkway around gazebo.
