HomeMy WebLinkAboutKFB Minutes 2010-07-27 Keep Friendswood Beautiful Monthly Meeting Minutes July 27, 2010 Members and Staff in attendance were: Kaye Corey Frank Garza Mary Stockwell Marty Abbe Patty Stienke Sherry Goen Guest, Oswald City Staff: Kimberly Ramirez Director of Community Services: James Toney City Council Liaison: Jim Barr 1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 6:43 p.m. 2. Minutes: Marty Abbe made a motion to approve the minutes, Patty Stienke seconded the motion and the motion passes unanimously. 3. Communications: IESI Discussion on Recycling Options-City Council Meeting August 2, 2010, meeting has been rescheduled; board will be notified when IESI will be at the city council meeting. Jim Barr stated that city council has approved the TXDOT contract for the entrance signs and we’re just waiting for the permit from TXDOT. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding: A. Volunteer Hours for May/June/July: Sherry Goen requested that all board members send their hours to John Merrifield to update the spreadsheet. B. Fourth of July Float/Booth/Volunteers: Sherry Goen stated that everyone was very impressed with the event, the KFB booth was a success and the parade float won 3rd place. C. Clean up Letters: Kaye Corey stated that an area near Sunset and Mills needed to be cleaned up. The request was sent to Cathy Gray, and the request was completed by the property owners. Frank Garza stated that the curb area near Clear Creek and FM528 needs to be cleaned up; James Toney stated that he will check with Public works on cleaning up that area. D. Keep Texas Beautiful **Post Office Beautification Project (Eagle Scout): Garrett Benson has prepared the beds at the post office and is ready to be plant. **Banners for Centennial Park: James Toney that the office is contacting several photographers to take pictures at events at Centennial. He requested to order banners out of next year’s budget. E. Business Beautification Award: Jack in the Box: Paul Marx will be delivering the plaque and sign this week. F. Stevenson Park **Adopt a Bed Signs-Friendswood Fillies: The Friendswood Fillies will be adopting the gazebo bed and will be starting to landscape the bed in August. **High School worker: A student from Houston Work Co-op program will be cleaning up the park and beds the month of July and August. G. Positive Letters to Businesses for Property Improvement (Walgreens@518/2351): Kaye Corey asked if theirs any other landscaping that will be done at the Walgreens on FM528, Frank Garza stated that the beds were cleaned up and mulched. H. Improvement letters: Sherry Goen stated that she will send a letter to the auto repair business next to Red Top. I. Entrance Signs Update: Kaye Corey questioned what will happen to the original entrance signs. James Toney stated that the signs will be kept in storage. J. KFB Website--Any Tweet or Website ideas? K. Committee: **Pavers for Stevenson Park Driveway Committee: James Toney stated that he will be meeting with Leigh Walden, with Jumps and Bounds this week. **Volunteer Coordinator: Sherry Goen stated there are several volunteers interested in joining the board. L. New Business: **Community Gardens & Farmers Market Discussion: Sherry Goen stated that she has spoken to Mr. Buzbee concerning working together with KFB on future projects. James Toney stated that he is ok that KFB talking to Buzbee on future projects. Mary Stockwell made a motion that KFB will be researching community gardens as an initiative for KFB, Patty Stienke seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. **Landscaping Plan for Medians Recommendations: James Toney stated that the contractor will be putting soil and sod back into the medians. James Toney stated that KFB needs to decide on what they want the medians to look like. KFB has given their recommendations and Kaye Corey will draw up the plans. 5.
