HomeMy WebLinkAboutKFB Minutes 2010-06-29 Keep Friendswood Beautiful Monthly Meeting Minutes June 29, 2010 Members and Staff in attendance were: Loretta Murphy Gail Rodgers Sherry Goen Frank Garza Marty Abbe Martha Cotton Paul Marx City staff: Kimberly Ramirez Director of Community Services: James Toney Guest: Carol Benson Guest: Jarrett Benson-Boy Scout Guest: Ozwald 1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 6:34 p.m. 2. Minutes: Marty Abbe made a motion to approve the minutes, Martha seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. . 3. Communications: Garrett Benson attended the meeting and presented his Eagle project plan to landscape the Friendswood Post Office. Garrett has drawn up plans to landscape the front of the Post office and will be asking for donations to purchase plants and mulch. Garrett has asked local businesses to sponsor his project and has been successful. IESI-Discussion on Recycling Options 4. Discussion and possible action regarding: A. Volunteer Hours for May/June: Sherry Goen asked the board members to turn in volunteer hours at next months meeting. B. Fourth of July Float/Booth/Volunteers: Decorations/Plants from Equine: Loretta Murphy stated that the plants from Gulf Coast Equine need to be picked up on Saturday and taken back by Tuesday. Decorate trailer July 3rd-1108 Pine Hollow Drive (Goens): Sherry Goen stated that the trailer will be decorated on July 3rd at 6:30 after the gathering. Parade Riders: Marty Abbe, Patty Stienke, Sherry Goen, and Mary Stockwell plan to ride in the parade float. Booth Workers: Loretta Murphy, Martha Cotton, and Gail Rodgers plan to work the booth. Recycling containers, Giveaways, Recycling Signs-Kimberly Ramirez stated that supplies are ready. C. Clean up letters: Frank Garza confirmed that Walgreens will be taking care of dead trees soon. D. PSB irrigation and plants: Sherry Goen stated that the PSB median looks great after the crepe myrtle and rose bushes were planted. E. Keep Texas Beautiful: KTB Conference in Austin: Sherry Goen was very excited about the information she obtained at the KTB conference and has decided to be the chair for KFB 2 more years. Sherry Goen informed the committee that we need to start new projects in Friendswood besides our cleanup projects. Plaque for Pete (Sonic) Presented at Council Mtg: The plaque will be presented on July 12th at the council meeting. Crepe Myrtle moved to median in front of Potters: Crepe Myrtle has been planted at the median. Post Office Beautification Project (Eagle Scout): See communication from the public. Banners for Centennial Park: Have approached photographers but haven’t received any response. Landscaping @ Captains Corner: James Toney stated that Cornerstone have submitted a proposal to property owner. F. Business Beautification Award- The plaque and sign will be presented and displayed next month. G. Stevenson Park- 4th of July Ready: Loretta Murphy stated the park is ready. Front of City hall: Touch ups will be done by Cornerstone this Friday before the 4th. Flowers in Park/Weeding: Kimberly Ramirez stated that this is completed. Oleanders Trimmed/Repainting Fence: James Toney stated he is working on getting this done with an Eagle Scout project. Adopt a Spot signs: Friendswood Fillies approach the city stating that they are interested in adopting a bed. H. Positive letters to businesses for property: Friendswood High School and Primrose School have been chosen to receive letters. I. Improvement letters: Walgreens (518) @ 2351-Frank Garza has been communicating with manager of Walgreens to have dead trees removed. K. Entrance signs update: James Toney stated that the TXDOT contract agreement is scheduled to be presented to council on July 12th agenda, after the mayor signs it the contract will be sent to TXDOT and signed by them. James Toney had the committee look at pictures of the Friendswood entrance sign location (entrance coming in from Pearland) and asked if the crepe myrtles need to be removed to allow sign installation. KFB agreed to have trees removed. L. KFB Website: The committee would like to add the quarterly Beautification awards to website and articles by Kaye Corey, master gardener. M. Committees: Pavers for Stevenson Park Driveway Committee: One quote for the paver’s project is $28,060 with a gravel lock system and the other quote is $14,000 with crushed granite. The plan to fund this project is thru fundraising. Volunteer Coordinator: Oswald attended the meeting and will be considering joining the committee. N. New Business: Loretta Murphy asked for 2 more pallets of grass for Stevenson Park. 5. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned 7:48 p.m. Approve by: Kimberly Ramirez Date: __July 27, 2010____
