Monthly Meeting Minutes
February 23, 2010
Members and Staff in attendance were:

1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m.
2. Discussion/approval of January 26, 2010 minutes: Gail Rodgers made
a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Frank Garza second the
motion and the motion was passed unanimously.
3. Communications/Guest
City Communications Committee Report: John Merrifield will be
presenting KFB annual report to council along with a power point slide
show to council and will be informing council of KFB’s volunteer hours.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding:
A. March 1st Report to Council--John Merrifield--Volunteer hours for
January: John Merrifield will be presenting the annual report to council
with a power point slide show; an award will be given to Cornerstone
B. Banners & Poles (Stevenson Park)--Update on Ordering: James
Toney has contacted Arnett Marketing to order the banners; waiting on
update from Arnett on a quote. Loretta Murphy made a motion to purchase a
new street banner for spring sparkle and Fall haul with the new name, Keep
Friendswood Beautiful and not to exceed $600, John Merrifield second the
motion and the motion passed unanimously.
C. Clean up letters
Post Office Walgreens 2351: The board would like to approach Walgreens
and ask if the board could be granted permission to mulch the bed area
facing FM528, with Walgreens funding the project.

House on 518: NA
D. Stevenson Park Beautification Update
Plaque for Cornerstone Landscaping Update: Plaque will be presented to
Corey Kirkland or Cornerstone Maintenance the night of the March 1
council meeting after the KFB presentation to council. The plaque will be
presented to Corey by the Junior Master Gardeners.
E. Keep Texas Beautiful:
Affiliation Status and Paperwork: Affiliation has been mailed to KTB.
Grants Application Status--Check winners KTB March 30: Sherry Goen
informed the board to check the website for the winners on March 30.
Waste in Place training: Martha Cotton, Sherry Goen, and Loretta Murphy
attended the Waste in Place training, Sherry Goen informed the board that
they learned a lot at the training and would like to get the high school
involved with recycling as well as the elementary schools. Sherry Goen
encourage board members to log on to the internet and look up ‘recycle” to
obtain free information on training for KFB.
Affiliation with Keep America Beautiful: Loretta Murphy would like to
have Friendswood apply to be affiliated with Keep America Beautiful.
James Toney would like to look into that for next fiscal year.
F. Business Beautification Award--Status on New Sign-March Award-
Paul Marx made a motion to repair the beautification award sign and to
change it to Keep Friendswood Beautiful, Loretta Murphy seconded the
motion and the motion passed unanimously.
G. Senior Citizens Bldg and Public Safety Bld Updates: James Toney
stated that the landscaping and irrigation has been completed at the senior
center but the public safety building landscaping has not started. James
Toney requested to wait until the construction is complete at the public
safety building to repair the landscaping at the median.
H. T-Shirts/Badges/Letterhead and Envelopes/Changes to Documents:
The shirts will be ordered before spring sparkle, badges will be ready next
month, Letterhead and envelopes and changes to documents will be done
next month also. Get a quote on hats.
I. Positive Letters to Business for Property Improvement: Table
J. Improvement Letters: Table
K. Entrance Signs Update: James Toney informed the board that the
finance department would like all departments to enforce the purchasing
policy of getting a quote from a H.U.B. which is currently delaying the
process for the entrance sign. James Toney is contacting a vendor that will
get a quote to him next week, after receiving this accounting will let us move
forward.
L. KFB Website: The web page is in the works and will go live in April.
M. New Business:
Publicity Coordinator: The board is in need of a publicity coordinator to
take pictures and add items to the website, and send information to local
newspapers. Paul Marx volunteered for this position
Waterway Cleanup Committee: Martha Cotton volunteered for this
position.
Adopt a Spot Committee: James Toney suggested adopting a location in
need of sprucing up. Sherry Goen will talk to Kaye Corey about this
information.
Entrance sign, Irrigation, Electricity, and Landscape Committee: Paul
Marx volunteered to be part of this committee along with Sherry Goen and
Gail Rodgers.
Pavers for Stevenson Park Driveway Committee: Gail Rodgers
volunteered for this committee.
Volunteer Coordinator: Loretta Murphy volunteered to take on this
position.
5. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:03.
