Meeting Minutes
January 16, 2019
The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, January
16, 2019 at 3:30 pm., in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall, 910 South
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Skip Evans,
Vice Chair Meg Crowley, Blaise Guzzetta, Mike Hickey, Gary Kay, Pauline Moore, and Jennifer
Whitley.
Staff members present were Karen Capps, Steven Rhea, and Aubrey Harbin
1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.m.
2. Roll call. Roll call was made with a quorum present.
3. Approval of Minutes
Gary Kay made a motion to approve the December 5, 2018 meeting minutes. Meg Crowley
seconded, all in favor, motion carried unanimously.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding:
-Friendswood cares business visits
Gary Kay reported on a business visit that he conducted in December. Staff addressed some
concerns that were reported regarding fencing and signage.
-Municipal Grant updates
Karen Capps reported that Virgata Commons' grant was approved by City Council at their meeting
on January 7. To date, eleven grants have been approved in the city.
-Downtown Improvement Plan status
Karen Capps reported that the FDEDC is working on a lighting design plan for downtown in keeping
with the approved Downtown Improvement Plan. A report on the status of a TIP grant application
was provided.
5. Staff report/comments
Karen Capps reported that she attended ICSC Red River States Conference and Deal Making in
Fort Worth last week and brought back several leads that she is following up on. A development
update was also provided. A copy of the Greater Houston Partnership's Economy at a Glance was
provided to members and Karen highlighted a few statistics that were noteworthy about the Houston
area economics.
