Meeting Minutes
September 5, 2018
The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday,
September 5, 2018 at 3:30 pm., in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall, 910
South Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Skip
Evans, Vice Chair Meg Crowley, Blaise Guzzetta, Gary Kay, Pauline Moore, and Jennifer Whitley.
Committee liaisons present were City Councilmember Trish Hanks, Friendswood Chamber of
Commerce President - Carol Marcantel, and Friendswood ISD's Assistant Superintendent of
Business and Operations — Connie Morgenroth.
Staff member present was Karen Capps.
Absent was Mike Hickey.
1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair Skip Evans at 3:35 p.m.
2. Roll call. Roll call was made with a quorum present.
3. Approval of Minutes
Meg Crowley made a motion to approve the August 1, 2018 meeting minutes with a correction. Gary
Kay seconded, all in favor, motion carried unanimously.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding:
-Friendswood cares business visits
The committee discussed coordinating business visits to report at next month's meeting.
S. Staff report/comments
Karen Capps reported on new commercial plans that were recently approved or underway. City
Council will consider grant writing services on their October 10 agenda that will assist with grant
applications for infrastructure projects in the city, specifically focused on the extension of
Friendswood Lakes Boulevard from FM 528 to FM 2351. Ms. Capps gave an update on the FDEDC
and consultant's work to create a downtown improvement plan.
6. Member comments
Meg Crowley reported that Drinks, Drafts, and Downtowners event will be held twice monthly on the
second Thursday at Jado'z Grill House and fourth Thursday at Brasserie 185 Restaurant from 5 to 7
p.m.
7. Liaison reports
City Councilmember Trish Hanks reported on attending the recent Labor Day Ice Cream Social
hosted by FDFA and a City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 10. Connie
Morgenroth stated that everything is running smoothly at FISD since school started a few weeks ago.
Carol Marcantel stated the Chamber's 3rd Annual Business Expo will be held on September 20 at
First Baptist Church and include 43 booth spaces. Mayor Foreman is helping promote the event.
8. Adjournment
Next meeting on October 2 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
