Meeting Minutes
August 1, 2018
The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, August 1,
2018 at 3:30 pm., in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall, 910 South
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Skip Evans, Vice
Chair Meg Crowley, Blaise Guzzetta, Mike Hickey, Gary Kay, Pauline Moore, and Jennifer Whitley.
Committee liaison present was City Councilmember Trish Hanks.
Staff member present was Karen Capps.
Also present was Marcus Perry (arrived at 4:50 p.m.)
1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair Skip Evans at 3:34 p.m.
2. Roll call. Roll call was made with a quorum present.
3. Approval of Minutes
Blaise Guzzetta made a motion to approve the July 11, 2018 meeting minutes with a correction.
Meg Crowley seconded, all in favor, motion carried unanimously.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding:
-How to be a resource to new and existing businesses, what are the most effective ways to
communicate
The committee discussed their role and the overall purpose in conducting business visits.
Committee members will coordinate one or two visits per month. Karen Capps will email the
business survey form and spreadsheet to tally results to committee members.
-What the overall message should be
Chair Skip Evans provided a copy of the CEDC's vision statement, mission statement, target market
statement, and purpose and duties of the committee as directed by City Council. The committee
discussed providing a copy of this when they visit businesses in town.
-Marketing ideas for the annual Broker and Developer Day
The purpose of the event was discussed. Meg Crowley said she met with Karen Capps and believes
the event needs an overall theme and a featured speaker. Possible speakers for the event were
discussed.
5. Staff report/comments
Karen Capps reported on progress to create the Downtown Improvement Plan for the FDEDC,
potential grant opportunities, prospects, and joint business visits conducted with the Chamber.
Priscilla Menchaca will be featured as the third quarter's Live HereWorkHere story.
6. Member comments
None
7. Liaison reports
City Councilmember Trish Hanks reported on items that will be on City Council's agenda for
consideration on August 6 including a FDEDC contract for grant writing services, 2017 flood map
approval, and a rezoning application for the former Lary's Florist building.
8. Adjournment
Next meeting on September 5 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
