HomeMy WebLinkAboutCEDC Minutes 2018-05-02 RegularCommunity and Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes May 2, 2018 The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 3:30 pm., in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall, 910 South Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Gary Kay, Meg Crowley, Skip Evans, Pauline Moore, Bill Provenzano, and Jennifer Whitley. City Councilmember John Scott was also present. Staff members present were Karen Capps and Jeff Newpher. Absent from the meeting were Marcus Perry and Dr. Hilmar Zeissig. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair Gary Kay at 3:34 p.m. 2. Roll call was made. Roll call was made. There was a quorum. 3. Approval of Minutes Skip Evans made a motion to approve the March 7, 2018 meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Bill Provenzano and it passed unanimously in the committee. 4. Discussion regarding economic development public relations and awareness. Chair Gary Kay stated that he placed this item on the agenda for discussion because it appears there is a lot of misinformation and possible confusion regarding the committee's role as well as the Friendswood Downtown EDC and Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association. Gary invited City Communications Specialist, Jeff Newpher, to the meeting to assist with what communication avenues the City is utilizing and how the CEDC might utilize these resources. Jeff reported that the City uses the City website, facebook twitter, CodeRed, City newsletters, 1650 Am radio, YouTube, Public Education and Government Channel on Xfinity and AT&T U-verse to communicate and explained the purpose of each. 5. Staff report/comments Karen Capps reported that the grant agreement for 505 S. Friendswood Drive is on City Council's agenda for May 7 for consideration/approval. The Friendswood Downtown EDC's consultant just finished conducting five stakeholder group meetings and survey. There have been over 1,100 surveys completed and submitted. Jado'z Grill House plans to open after Mother's Day. The City - Chamber Party on the Patio is Thursday, May 3. 6. Member comments No reports. 7. Liaison reports No reports. 8.
