Meeting Minutes
November 1, 2017
The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, November
1, 2017 at 3:30 pm., in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall, 910 South
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Gary Kay, Vice
Chair Marcus Perry, Meg Crowley, Bill Provenzano, Jennifer Whitley, and Dr. Hilmar Zeissig. Also
present was Garrett McLeod — Galveston County Economic Development.
Staff member present was Karen Capps.
Absent from the meeting were Skip Evans, Lorrie Foreman, and Pauline Moore.
1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair Gary Kay at 3:38 p.m.

3. Approval of Minutes
Dr. Hilmar Zeissig made a motion to approve the October 4, 2017 meeting minutes. The motion was
seconded by Jennifer Whitley and it passed unanimously in the committee.
4. Overview of City economic development services
Karen Capps gave an overview of the City's economic development efforts which included target
markets, business recruitment, retention, marketing, data collection, research, and analysis,
incentives, tax and regulatory environment, real estate inventory, demographics, and retail tradeshows
that she attends.
5. Discussion and possible action regarding CEDC action steps to support economic
development
Chair Kay asked how the CEDC could help support economic development efforts in the city. Ms.
Capps stated that speaking with persons you within your circle of influence that have businesses
outside of the city to consider relocating their business to Friendswood, if they do not need a "One
Allen Center" address. Action items and goals discussed were to attend the Chamber's ribbon -cuttings
for new Friendswood businesses, refer businesses from friends/circle of influence, make contact with
City Council members when there is a CEDC position, i.e. rezoning, conduct business visits.
6. Staff and member comments
Karen Capps reported on the 2017 Broker/Developer Day event stating that approximately 35
persons attended. She attended the Chamber's Business Expo on October 9 and will attend the
International Council of Shopping Centers Texas Dealmaking Tradeshow on November 9 and 10.
