HomeMy WebLinkAboutCEDC Minutes 2015-09-02 RegularFriendswood Community and Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes September 2, 2015 The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m., in the second floor conference room of City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Pauline Moore, Brett Banfield, Mark Conrad, Skip Evans, Gary Kay, Jeremy Magnuson, and Bill Provenzano. Liaisons present were City Councilmember Carl Gustafson and Friendswood ISD Superintendent Trish Hanks. Also present was Friendswood resident, Jerry Ericsson. Staff members present were Karen Capps and Nick Haby. Absent from the meeting were Marcus Perry and Dr. Hilmar Zeissig. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 8:34 a.m. 2. Roll call was made. There was a quorum. 3. Approval of Minutes. Brett Banfield made a motion to approve the August 5, 2015 meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Skip Evans and passed unanimously in the committee. 4. Discussion regarding process for future recommendations on downzonings. Over the past few months, the committee has discussed how to best provide its position to City Council on downzonings. Discussion continued regarding this topic. The committee will move forward with providing a recommendation on all downzonings from commercial to non- commercial use. The method of communication will be to provide bullet points or briefing report to support their recommendation that includes possible economic impact. Information will provided through the Rezoning Report, and may also include making contact with individual councilmembers to relay the committee's position. Karen will also forward all commercial rezoning requests to the committee for their information. 5. Status of downtown streetscaping at City Hall, Fire Station, and Stevenson Park. Planning Manager, Nick Haby, reported on the progress of the City's streetscaping project. Construction could commence in the next three months. 6. Reports: Committee Members Brett Banfield reported that the Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association now has over 70 members and is picking up steam. There will be a membership meeting on September 29 with over 400 businesses, the CEDC, P&Z, and others invited. Mark Conrad asked that BAHEP's contract be sent to CEDC members. Staff Karen Capps reported that Jeremy Magnuson will be featured as the upcoming Live Here Work Here story. A report was made on the recent Retail Live event she attended in Austin. Preparations are being made for the 13th Annual Broker and Developer Day event to be held on Tuesday, October 27 at 10 am. 7. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 10:05 a.m.
