HomeMy WebLinkAboutCEDC Minutes 2014-07-09 RegularFriendswood Community and Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes July 9, 2014 The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 8:30 a.m., in the second floor conference room of City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Pauline Moore, Mark Conrad, Skip Evans, Jeremy Magnuson, and Bill Provenzano. Liaisons present were City Councilmember Carl Gustafson and Dan Seal of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. Absent from the meeting were Tony Annan, Brett Banfield, Marcus Perry, and Hilmar Zeissig. Staff members present was Karen Capps. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 8:38 a.m. by Chair Pauline Moore with a quorum present. 2. Roll Call. Roll call was made. 3. Approval of Minutes. A motion was made by Jeremy Magnuson to approve the May 7, 2014 meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Mark Conrad and it passed unanimously in the committee. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding changes to the permitted use table for NAICS 236 General Contractors and 238 Specialty Trade Contractors. This item was deferred to next month's meeting. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding the development of policies pertaining to economic development. A status report was provided and information from the last City Council retreat. The committee decided that they would work on topics by email starting and review at next month's meeting. 6. Reports: City Staff Karen Capps gave a report on the status of the Whitcomb property and business prospects. Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership Dan Seal reported that he was invited to participate in meeting with Galveston County Commissioner's Court regarding development a regional economic development strategy. The county hired a consultant to draft a strategic plan for Galveston County. Dan also reported that the City of League City adopted a resolution banning housing of illegal immigrants. City Council Carl Gustafson reported that he has been traveling recently and visited Florence, South Carolina and South Holland, Illinois. He said that Florence has a traditional downtown with a lot of activities going on. 7. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 09:55 a.m.
