HomeMy WebLinkAboutCEDC Minutes 2011-07-06 RegularFriendswood Community and Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes July 6, 2011 The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 8:30 a.m., in the second floor conference room of City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Skip Evans, Vice Chair Pauline Moore, Tony Annan, Brett Banfield, Mark Conrad, Kirk Lippert, and Jeremy Magnuson. Liaisons present were City Councilmember Mike Barker, Planning and Zoning Commissioner Hassan Moghaddam, Friendswood Chamber of Commerce President Carol Jones, Galveston County Economic Alliance President Don Gartman, and Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership Marketing Manager Barbara Cutsinger. Also present were Jeff Newpher of the Friendswood Journal and Jim Wright of the Reporter News. Staff members present were Karen Capps, Roger Rocker, and Morad Kabiri (left at 9:30). Absent from the meeting were Bill Provenzano and Hilmar Zeissig. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 8:35 with a quorum present. 2. Roll Call. Roll call was made. 3. Approval of Minutes. Mark Conrad made a motion to approve the June 1, 2011 meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Kirk Lippert and it passed unanimously in the committee. 4. Discussion and possible action, but not limited to the Community and Economic Development Committee's 2010-11 goals and action items. The committee reviewed and discussed the draft report of the recent business survey. Karen Capps reported that the business guide is still being drafted. Two LHWH billboards are currently on display along FM 2351 near Blackhawk Boulevard. A draft Facebook page for the CEDC will be sent to the committee by email. The draft marketing and strategic plans were reviewed. The committee will review more during the month and discuss at next month's meeting. Karen Capps reported that the Greater Houston Restaurant Association postponed the Friendswood educational outlet event that was scheduled in August. A new date for the event will be provided for later in the year. Karen Capps reported that Friendswood was named #5 of the Best Towns for Families by Family Circle magazine. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding the Chapter 380 Municipal Grant Program. The committee will review the target market list at next month's meeting. 7. Reports: Liaisons Planning and Zoning It was reported that City Council will consider adopting an updated zoning map of the city. It was further explained that the updated map will only reflect zone changes that were already approved. City Council Council Member Mike Barker reported on a rezoning request for a 46 acre site on Lundy Lane. City Council recently held a half -day planning meeting at the library. Galveston County Economic Alliance Don Gartman reported business prospects are still interested in Galveston County but a few projects have cooled off. Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership Barbara Cutsinger reported there will be a legislative update on the 82nd legislative session on July 27. There is an international bio event going on right now. Also mentioned was the upcoming ICSC Texas Deal Making event that will take place at the end of October in which BAHEP will have a booth there for the 13 member cities to attend and participate. City Staff Karen Capps handed out a copy of the City's Administrative Policies and Procedures for Appointment to City Boards, Commissions, and Committees along with a copy of committee attendance records. A copy of Robert's Rules of Order In Brief was also provided as a reference. 8. Adiournment. The meeting was adjourned at 10:28 am.
