Meeting Notes
February 2, 2011
The Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday,
February 2, 2011, at 8:30 a.m., in the second floor conference room of City Hall, 910 S.
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Mark Conrad,
Kirk Lippert, Jeremy Magnuson, and Bill Provenzano. Liaisons present were Bay Area Houston
Economic Partnership Executive Director of Special Projects Dan Seal, Friendswood Chamber
of Commerce President Carol Jones, and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Jim Gibson.
Also present was Jeff Newpher of the Friendswood Journal.
Staff members present was Karen Capps and City Manager Roger Roecker.
Absent from the meeting were Skip Evans, Pauline Moore, Brett Banfield, Dr. Hilmar Zeissig,
and Cody Owen.
1. Call to Order. There was no quorum. Reports were made with no action items discussed.

Liaisons
Friendswood Chamber of Commerce
Carol Jones reported there were 186 attendees at the Chairman's Gala and HomeTown
Bank was named Business of the Year. The car show will be held on April 16 from 9 am
until 4 pm. The Chamber is working on hosting a Taste of the Town event at the Green
Event Center. Trish Hanks will speak at the Chamber's monthly General Membership
meeting.
Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Dan Seal reported on the Quasar award banquet that was held in January where U.S.
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson received the 2011 award. Embry Riddle Aeronautical
University will make a decision in April whether they will locate their new university in
Houston or Rockford, Illinois. Embry Riddle trains more pilots than anyone else, has four
year degrees in aerospace engineering. Currently, Embry Riddle has universities in
Daytona Beach, Florida and Prescott, Arizona. The new university would probably open
with about 1,500 students and 200 employees near Ellington Field.
Planning and Zoning
Jim Gibson reported that P&Z discussed the major thoroughfare plan and email
notifications to alert the public whenever there are changes to the permitted use table.
City Staff
City Manager, Roger Roecker, provided an overview of the City's multi -year financial
plan. Karen Capps reported on attending an International Economic Development
Council Leadership Summit Conference. She asked CEDC members to attend the grant
check presentation to HomeTown Bank at their grand opening/ribbon-cutting on February
8.
