HomeMy WebLinkAboutCEDC Minutes 2006-12-04 RegularCommunity and Economic Development Committee Minutes December 4, 2006 The Community and Economic Development Committee met jointly in a work session with City Council on Monday, December 4, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas, with the following members present: Chair Deirdre Brown, Vice Chair Kirk Lippert, Jamie Ballard, Karin Massicott, Pauline Moore, Jon Olansen, Bill Provenzano, Ed Sebesta and Hilmar Zeissig. Staff members present were Karen Capps and Bo McDaniel. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. with a quorum present. 2. Discussion with City Council regarding the goals and objectives of the Community and Economic Development Committee. Committee members introduced themselves to City Council. Chair Brown, provided copies to City Council of a written annual report, proposed 2006-07 economic development goals, and a copy of Dr. Perryman's report titled "The Market for Prosperity: Understanding the Economic Development Process." The CEDC provided City Council a PowerPoint presentation overview of the work that the committee has been doing. Chair Brown reviewed the top fifteen goals as were listed in Vision 2020 and asked for the City Council to rank these goals as they would see them of importance today. Discussed were the goals, history, and purpose of the committee, planning for the future, and who is leading the efforts for economic development. The CEDC discussed updating Vision 2020 and the future of Friendswood regarding build - out. Economic Development Coordinator, Karen Capps, provided City Council an update regarding several mixed -use projects such as, The Falls at Friendswood, West Ranch, downtown revitalization, and the CDC -owned properties. The Open Meetings Act was discussed as it applies to CEDC and subcommittees. 3. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 pm. The Mayor and Council thanked the committee for their hard work and dedication to this process.
