Also present were the following liaisons: Council Member Tracy Goza, Friendswood Chamber of Commerce President Carol Jones, and Friendswood Independent School District Superintendent Trish Hanks. Also present at the meeting was Larry Lowe. Staff members present were Karen Capps and Ron Cox. Absent from the meeting were Kevin Candee, Maurice Estlinbaum, Gary Harris, Zekie McVeigh, Bob Bertrand, Dr. Sandra Mossman, and Jim Reinhartsen. 1. Call to Order. Chair Crinion called the meeting to order at 8:12 a.m. with a quorum present. 2. Approval of Minutes. Andy Massicott made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of November 5, 2003. Jim Gerland seconded the motion and it passed unanimously in the committee. 3. Discussion regarding the laws of annexation. This item was not discussed and was moved to the January 2004 agenda. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding industrial -zoned property in the panhandle area. Jim Gerland gave a presentation to the committee regarding the potential for future development in the industrial -zoned district that fronts FM 2351 in the city. Jim provided several pictures as examples of various business park developments throughout the Houston area. The committee briefly discussed how the city could find ways to participate with landowners in master -planning the area, or provide infrastructure or incentives to spur development around the golf course. It was also suggested that other landowners be contacted to inquire about their development plans. 5. Report and discussion regarding broker/developer events. Chair Crinion thanked the committee members for attending the two recent broker events to promote economic development. Approximately 65 persons attended the first broker event that was held in Friendswood on October 9, and approximately 40 persons attended the second event that was held at a restaurant in the Galleria area on November 18, 2003. Since both events were successful, there was consensus by the committee to continue hosting these on an annual basis. It was suggested that a new event be held for the purpose of receiving feedback in the form of an open discussion with developers. This might be similar to the builders' forums that are already being held. This type of forum will be discussed with City staff for ideas and the committee will receive a report regarding suggestions/ideas on hosting such an event. 6. Adjournment. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:32 a.m.
