Discussion/Approval of Minutes January 28, 2020. Motion to approve was made by Sherry, seconded by Tim, and approved unanimously. Communications/Guests: A resident of Friendswood, Paula Oddo, was in attendance. She presented her concerns to the board about the trees at 501 S. Friendswood Drive. Paula has been a resident of Friendswood for over 40 years. She proceeded to advocate for the preservation of the trees. She hopes that we will recommend to council to make an effort to save the trees, and that council would take into consideration to update the tree preservation ordinance. Volunteer Hours: An interactive training on the new volunteer software, VOMO, was led by Kimberly Ramirez. She explains how VOMO can be used to track volunteer hours from city events. A notification will be sent out when the VOMO mobile app is available, which will be more user friendly than the desktop version. Committee Reports **Executive Committee GCAA Grant Update: Grant is finished, and is almost ready for submission. The grant includes all of KFB's amazing efforts, volunteer hours, and highlights from the past year! Thank you to everyone that has contributed! Spring Sparkle: April 11'; 8AM — 2PM. Volunteers will be needed. Signup will go out soon. Schools Out for Summer: June 5'; 7PM Fairy Trail Update: Fairy Trail Grand Opening will start at 6PM on June 51, an hour before School's Out for Summer. Keep Texas Beautiful reached out in regards to additional funding for the HEB Green Bag Grant, and we will be receiving an additional $1,250 for the project! That brings the total funds that we've received for the project to $7,500! Logistics of entryways and wheelchair accessibility are discussed among the board. Natasha mentions incorporating the green bags from the HEB Green Bag Grant to distribute on opening night to promote the attractions and encourage reusable bags. Katy is working on the map and visuals for the fairy trail. Natasha suggests including a compass rose in the trail to promote awareness and direction of the trail. **Keep Texas Beautiful/Michael Fernandez KTB Updates/Grant Opportunities Adopt -A -Spot Clean Up: More volunteers will be needed. Clean up efforts this past weekend were made by Michael and 6 volunteers. Michael suggests potential new routes for the future and timeframes for additional cleanup opportunities. August 22nd, 2020, and January 231, 2021 are proposed as additional cleanup days. **Public Awareness/Brandee Fernandez Social Media Updates: Current number of likes on Facebook: 3,038. This is up 27% from this time last year, and up 60% from this time in 2018. The Tree Giveaway was one of the largest engagements on Facebook. Followed by the Don't Mess With Texas cans posts. On Instagram, we are up to 301 followers, which is double from this time last year. Friendswood Proud Contest Dates/Call for Sponsors **Education/Sherry Goen The packet that is going to the schools is ready, along with the booklet. There is an updated KFB brochure that will be going in classrooms. Sherry is continuing to encourage people particularly form Cline Elementary to visit the garden and post photos on Facebook. 2020 Workshop Discussion: Suggestions include outdoor and container gardening, snake identification, etc. **Beautification/Kaye Corey Pollinator Garden Update: There are bluebonnets in the garden that are blooming. Nothing in the garden appears to have died over the winter. Susan, Betty, and Kaye have been working in the garden to maintain the appearance and growth of the plants. Susan and Meg are collaborating on the new signs for the pollinator garden that will go up later on. Kim and other board members have been corresponding via email about the potential of adding bird houses to the stand alone trees in the pollinator. We have received a quote for the two houses, as well as two 24" hanging hooks, for $110.40. One of the parks employees will install the houses once they are received. A motion to purchase the bird houses was made by Sherry Goen, seconded by Jeff Smith, motion was approved unanimously. Kaye also requests the board to take on the landscaping at the animal shelter. She asks that the flower bed be expanded to include the new structure at the facility. Business Beautification Awards: If anyone has recommendations for the next quarter, they need to be submitted by the end of March so that we have time to vote. Natasha opens a discussion for recommendations. Some that were mentioned include the new Chick-Fil-A, The Beldon, etc. **Parks/FDEDC Report/Paul Marx FDEDC is working on a formal survey for improvement plans involving the sidewalks along 518.Old City Park; the electrical line has just been completed to power the gate, which will be on a sunrise - sunset schedule. The pavilion at Old City will be up for rental soon. We are comparing quotes for various natural playgrounds at the park, as well as working on obtaining new signage. **Environmental Action Recycling Trends/Updates: Various board members bring to light the different recycling services and facilities nearby, and inform us about mobile apps that aide in recycling awareness. Softball Fields Pilot Recycle Program Update: We have received the gloves, sanitizer, and bags for the furthering of the pilot program. 6. Median Maintenance Updates (FM518): The current contractor communicates well, and is preserving all the plants and rocks, which will be transferred to the old Public Works facility, 1306 Deepwood. Foxtail Fern and Mulley Grass are being watered and available for anyone that wants them. Please contact Kimberly for more information. 7. New Business: No new business.
