1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 6:30pm.
2. Communications from the public: City Liaisons -Our Council Liaison Trish Hanks was in
attendance. Trish recently gathered educational curricula from all of our schools. With this, we
were able to create a spreadsheet with contacts and detailed efforts of environmental
education in our community. Thank you Trish for the huge help gathering this information to
help KFB with the GCAA grant application and future educational outreach! Youth Softball
Fields- Alexandra Castillo (3rd Grader) presented to the board her enthusiasm for recycling and
keeping the softball fields clean. She was/is personally collecting, sorting and taking bags home
to recycle from the Friendswood Softball Fields. KFB agreed to help with bins and supplies
($150.00). She will continue to sort the recycling and with help, place recyclables in the parks
recycle container. If this project works well, it may be piloted for other parks. FHS Recycle Club-
Mikayla Wiest and William Long presented and shared the Recycling Club's collecting and
sorting data. Currently they are operating with about 30 members who collect recyclables from
90 rooms in the High School. Weekly they collect about 1,980 bottles. They are currently
working on designing a shirt to sell for the Recycle Club to help with funding. In addition, they
collect markers, cans, and recently turned in 2,100 drink tabs from drinks to the Ronald
McDonald House!

sales, everything behind the scenes went smoothly and we had a lot of happy kids with
big smiles on their faces thru out the day!
2019 Overview of KFB Hours
We had a big increase in reported hours from KFB Board and KFB Volunteers. This year board
members were able to track hours more effectively via a tracking app. In addition, there are
new programs KFB took part of this year such as the Adopt -A -Highway, Pollinator Garden, 4th of
July Parade, and Fairy Trail. The KFB Board is an outstanding leader in community service!

E. Beautification/Kaye Corey
Pollinator Garden Update- Susan and Kaye planted spring wildflower seeds. Kim ordered seeds
and KFB members donated some as well, including Milkweed from Michigan. There were new
plant donations including a beautyberry and citrus from Master Gardeners. The garden will
need a new hose and fencing in 2020, funding will be provided by KFB Garage Sales. Stevenson
Park is officially a Certified Wildlife Habitat due to our KFB Pollinator Garden! The sign will be
proudly placed close to the garden. In order to be a Certified Wildlife Habitat the following
must be incorporated. Food: Native plants provide food eaten by a variety of wildlife. Feeders
can supplement natural food sources. Water: All animals need water to survive, and some need
it for bathing or breeding as well. Cover: Wildlife need places to take shelter from bad weather
and places to hide from predators or hunt for prey. Places to Raise Young: Wildlife need
resources to reproduce, and to protect and nourish their young. Sustainable Practices: Maintain
your yard or garden in natural ways to ensure soil, air, and water stay healthy and clean.
Tree Giveaway/Todd Mendenhall We had a very popular tree giveaway! The giveaway started
at 8:OOam and all 200 trees were disbursed by 8:40am. This year the social media posts reached
over 20K people. Due to the popularity, we encourage next year's participants to arrive early to
be guaranteed a tree. Thanks to all your hard work to make this tree give away a well sought
after success!
Business Beautification Award/Shawn Potter New signage is ready and available for award
winners. This quarter's award will go to Bergamo's Day Spa.
F. Parks/James Toney The original disc golf course located at 1776 Park was closed due to a
flood mitigation project. Currently Parks is working with Disc Golf Designers to plan the new
location of disc course which will be in Old City Park. The diverse terrain of OCP will provide
natural obstacles for the course.
G. Environmental Action/Tim Anderson Tim reported the recent Litter Survey Results to the
board. One of the highlights of the report is KFB's Clean Up Events like Spring Sparkle and Fall
Haul were reported as having the biggest impact on keeping Friendswood litter free! The full
report is attached.

The project redo is set to restart Feb. 3rd. During construction, the inner lane next to the
median along the work site will be closed to motorists from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. It will be open at
other times to avoid disruption to work and school rush hour. TOOT has agreed to add bricks
along the edges of the landscaping it will give the downtown area a lot of character, uniformity,
and distinction. Additionally, plants salvaged from the current medians will be reused and
placed throughout city parks. The median work is expected to last three months and is being
conducted by TxDOT's contractor, Texas Wall and Landscape. For a year after the project is
complete, TOOT will handle the maintenance.
