HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2021-09-15CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2021 — 6:OOPM MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE THAT WAS HELD ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2021, IN THE SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM AT FRIENDSWOOD CITY HALL LOCATED AT 910 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: CHAIR BARBARA BLANCHARD COMMITTEE MEMBER CHRIS SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER TONY SCARPA DAY CHAIR MICHELLE BJACEK COMMITTEE MEMBER STEFANIE KARACOSTAS COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRY MCKEE COMMITTEE MEMBER KATHY MOLINARO COMMITTEE MEMBER LARRY SIMS COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN SCOTT JAMES TONEY, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION CATHERINE WOOD, RECREATION MANAGER MEGAN DONELSON, RECREATION ASSISTANT 1. Call to Order Chairperson Blanchard called the meeting to order at 6:01 PM. 2. Communications from the Public Lindsey Vaughn is in attendance, and discusses various items with the committee. 3. Minutes A. A motion to approve the minutes from the July 21, 2021 meeting with the corrections was made by Kathy, seconded by Larry, and approved unanimously. 4. Discussion and take possible action regarding tasks, duties, schedules, and/or assignments related to the Fourth of July event and program to include, but not limited to: A. Breakfast The breakfast was very efficient this year. B. Parade theme and grand marshal Logistic changes for next year's parade are discussed. The committee members also discuss potential parade theme and grand marshal ideas. A decision will be made on these elements at the next meeting. C. Day Program Multiple plans for booth arrangements in the park will be accounted for. There will be a maximum of approximately 60 booths. Power and fan needs will be discussed more as the event approaches, and a solution will be reached to strategically place vendors needing large amounts of power. The committee also discusses ride placement for next year's day program. D. Evening Program The Party Crashers Band has been scheduled for the 2022 celebration. A larger stage will be needed to accommodate the larger band. The sound company will remain the same. The ending fireworks show will be shortened, but the same amount of funds will be used to make the show more impactful. The committee agrees upon eliminating the in -person recognition portion of the show. Instead, a pre-recorded video will introduce the committee and council members to the public. Adjustments will be made to the fencing in and around the parking lot. In addition, a new entry pass system will devised to prevent pass duplication. The committee will be voting on more booth options as the event gets closer to minimize wait times. Lastly, the committee decides to bring back a second meeting in June to walk out each element of the evening program. 5. Adjournment Chairperson Blanchard made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:12PM; the motion was seconded by Kathy, and approved unanimously.
