HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 83-20 RESOLUTION N0. l� � ��`� A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A TAX EXEMPTION BASED ON A PERCENTAGE OF THE MARKET VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS WITHIN THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, FOR THE 1983 TAXABLE YEAR; ESTABLISHING A TAX EXEMPTION OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10, 000.00) OF THE ASSESSED VALUE OF RE5IDENCE HOMESTEADS WITHIN THE CITY OF FRIENDWOOD, TEXAS, FOR PERSONS SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER FOR THE TAXABLE YEAR 1983 ; RATIFYING AND CON- FIRMING A SIMILAR TAX EXEMPTION FOR THE 1982 TAXABLE YEAR; AND MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT. �r * * � * BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, STATE �F TEXAS : Section 1. The City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas , does hereby exempt from City ad valorem taxation for the 1983 taxable year forty percent (40%) of the market value, as determined by law, of the residence homestead of each married and unmarried adu1C responsible for the payment of such City taxes, including an adult living alone, but in no event shall the amount of such exemption be less than five thousand dollars ($5, 000. 00) . Section 2. The City Council of the City of Friendswood , Texas , does hereby exempt ten thousand dollars ($10, 000.00) of the assessed value of residence homesteads within the City for married or unmarried persons sixty-five (b5) years of age or older, including those living alone, from all ad valorem taxes hereafter levied by the City for the taxable year 1983. Section 3. Each person desiring such exemption or exemptions shall file an application with the Chief Appraiser of the Galveston County Appraisal District to qualify for said 1983 exemptions, said application to be in such form and f iled at such time as shall be required by law. Section 4. The grant of each of these exemptions shall be in addition to any other exemption for which the recipient shall be qualified under the law. Section 5. The City Council of Che City of Friendswood , Texas , hereby ratifies and confirms similar tax exemptions for the 1982 taxable year, to-wit : an exemption from City ad valorem taxation for the 19$2 taxable year of either forty per- cent (40�) of the market value, as determined by law, of the residence homestead of each married and unmarried adult responsible for the payment of such City taxes , including an adult living alone, or five thousand dollars ($5, 000.00) , whichever was greater ; and an exemption of ten thousand dollars ($10, 000. 00) of the assessed value of residence homesteads with in the City for marr ied or unmarr ied persons s ixty-f ive (65) years of age or older, including those living alone, from all ad valorem taxed levied by the City for the taxable year 1982 ; each such exemption to be in addition to any other exemption for which the recipient was legally qualified .
