R89-1 A RESOLUTION URGING THE PROMPT DISMANTLING AND REMOVAL OF THE REFINING TOWERS AND THE ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT FROM THE "BRIO ENVIRONMENTAL SUPERFUND SITE" LOCATED AT THE INTERSECTION OF BEAMER AND DIXIE FARM ROAD IN FRIENDSWOOD . � * � � � � � WHEREAS , the Friendswood City Council is interested in improvin� the community appearance and image; and WHEREAS, the subject structure has been abandoned and continues to deteriorate with exposure to the elements ; and WHEREAS , the refining structure located on the BRIO site constitutes a distinetly negative feature in the city; and WHEREAS, the structure is scheduled to be dismantled and removed as part of the EPA Cleanup Pro�ram; and WHEREAS, dismantling and removal of the structure will be done under the supervision of the EPA; and WHEREAS, disposal of the structure has been agreed to by POTENTIALLY RESPONSIBLE PARTIES and is included in the consent decree submitted to the United States Justice Department ; and WHEREAS , the POTENTIALLY RESPONSIBLE PARTIES have stated their willin�ness to remove the structure without further delay; and WHEREAS, removal of the strueture will improve the City appearance and ima�e ; * � � � * � * NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the City Couneil of the City of Friendswood , Texas that they urge the BRIO Site POTENTIALLY RESPONSIBLE PARTIES to expeditiously dismantle and remove the refining struetures and that the City Council of the City of Friendswood , Texas urge other interested and cognizant organizations and individuals to support this effort .
