A RESOLUTION BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL
AUTH�RIZING "DESERT SHIELD" HOTLINE
BE ESTABLISHED AT FRIENDSWOOD CITY
HALL.
WHEREAS, on August 2, 1990, Iraq overran Kuwait after a
dispute over oil and frontier; and
WHEREAS, on August 7, 1990, President Bush ordered U.S.
troops to Saudi Arabia to defend against Iraquis;
and
WHFRF.AS� on September 20, 1990, Arm�r National Guard and
Reserve units from 27 states and D.C. were
called to active duty; and
WHEREAS, an November 8, 1990, President Bush ordered
massive additions to the military forces in
the Persian Gulf; and
WHEREAS, on November 29, 199�, U.N. Security Council
voted 12-2 to allow military action in the
Gulf if Irag does not withdraw by January 15,
1991; and
WHEREAS, military personnel from the State of Texas and
City of Friendswood have been and may continue
to be called to active duty; and
WHEREAS, the immediate families of military personnel may
suffer undue hardship; and
WI�REAS, it is the goal of the City of Friendswood to
assist the families of military personnel
called to active duty by providing information and
other services as appropriate; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF TFiE CITY OF FRILNDSWOOD, STATE OF TEXAS:
Section 1. The telephone number of 482-3934 be
designated as the official "Desert Shield
Hot Line" telephone to be used during
regular business hours.

Sectian 2. That city personnel grovide assistance to
the extent practical to these immediate
family members.
Section 3 . This resolution designates the oficial
start of the program for the entire
public' s benefit and shall remain in effect
while "Desert Shield" is in operation.
PASSED, APPRCIVED AND ADOPTED this the 7th day of January,
1991.
