HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 92-44 RESOLL`TTON NO R92-44 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION TO THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO MINORS AND INTOXICATED PERSONS; REQUESTING OWNERS OF BUSINESSES SELLING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO CAREFULLY SCREEN PURCHASERS THEREOF TO ASSURE SALES DO NOT OCCUR TO MINORS AND INTOXICATED PERSONS; DIRECTING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO INSTIGATE SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT MEASURES TO ASSURE COMPLIANCE WITH LIQUOR CONTROL LAWS; AND PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT. * * * WHEREAS, historicaily the holiday season has been marred by accidents, vandalism, and disorder directly resulting from the use of alcoholic beverages; and WHEREAS, the use of alcoholic beverages by minors has been especially prevalent during the holiday season; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it appropriate to apprise those persons selling alcoholic beverages of the special risks involved with selling alcoholic beverages to minars and intoxicated persons; now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS: section 1. The City Council of the City of Friendswood hereby declares its opposition to the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated persons and requests owners of businesses to take special precautions during the holiday season to assure such sales do not occur. Section 2. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to take special measures during the holiday season to assure compliance with liquor control laws by sellers of alcoholic beverages, and to give notice to such sellers that special enforcement measures wili be implemented. Such notice shall also inform business awners of the criminal penalties for selling alcoholic beverages to minors or to intoxicated persons. Sectian 3. The City Secretary is hereby directed to cause a true and correct copy of this Resolution to be delivered to each newspaper published in the City with a request that such newspaper assist the City in its efforts to infarm the public of the City's plans to implement special enforcement of liquor control laws during the holiday season.
