WHEREAS, Space Station Freedam is fundamental to United States leadership in sci�nce, technolagy and economic competitiveness in the 21st century; and WHEREp,S, Space StatiQn Freedom wi11 enhance U. S. commercial campetitiveness with new advanced technologies; and WHEREAS, Space Statio�,. Freedam will provide cri.tical micr�gravity research in materials and life sciences which are not possible an earth; and WHEREAS, Space Station Freedam will be the centerpiece for beneficial internatianal coaperatian in space; and WHERE�AS, Space Statian Freedom is an integral camponent of the manned explaration grogram; and WHEREAS, Space Station Freedam is crueial ta future long duration manned space exploration� and WHEREAS, Sgace StatiQn Freedam will provide the vision and inspiratian for generations af Americans to pursue excellence in educatian and the expansion of knowledge; and WFIL�REAS, Research abaard Space Statian Freedam will benefit health care on earth. WHEREAS, Space Statian Freedom currently employs 30,000 people directly and 75,Q00 to 100,OQQ geople indirectly. The fiscal year 1992 5pace Stati�n budget request cantributes to 2,000 businesses in 30 states and the District of Columbia. WHEREAS, The aerospace industr�r is ane af our most competitive and vibrant industri�s. It accounts for aver 10 0 of aIl U. S. exparts and continual.ly maintains a trade surplus in a highly competitive market. In 1994, the aerospace industry enjo�red a $26.3 billion surplus while the United States suffered a $1Q1. billion deficit overall. , NOW THER$FORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE FRIENDSWOC)D CITY � COUNCIL THAT WE SUPPQRT THE.
