R95-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE TEXAS RECREATION AND PARKS ACCOUNT GRANT PROGRAM, SAME BEING A FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ADMINISTERED BY THE TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING CERTIFICATION THAT THE CITY IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE UNDER THE PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR THE DESIGNATION AND DEDICATION OF THAT CERTAIN 77-ACRE TRACT OF LAND, HERETOFORE ACQUIRED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING THEREON THE CENTENNIAL SPORTS PARK, AS A PERMANENT PUBLIC PARK AND RECREATION FACILITY OF THE CITY; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY TO SUBMIT NECESSARY APPLICATIONS AND PROVIDE REQUIRED INFORMATION TO QUALIFY THE CITY FOR ASSISTANCE UNDER THE PROGRAM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CENTENNIAL SPORTS PARK. * * * * * WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 24 of the Parks and Wildlife Code, the Texas legislature has authorized implementation of the Texas Recreation and Parks Account Grant Program (hereaEter the "Program") , for the purpose of providing financial assistance to political subdivisions of the state in the development of public parks and public park facilities; and WHEREAS, the Program is administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (hereafter the "Department") ; and WHEREAS, the City of Friendswood (hereafter the "City") , pursuant to the terms of the Program, is fully eligible to receive assistance thereunder; and WHEREAS, the City is desirous of seeking financial assistance under the Program for use in developing the City's Centennial Sports Park; now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS: FW D�PKGRANT.RES\07 2096 Section 1. The City Council of the City of Friendswood hereby certifies that the City is eligible to receive assistance under the Program. Section 2 . The City Council hereby designates and dedicates that certain 77-acre site, heretofore acquired for the purpose of developing thereon the Centennial Sports Park, as a permanent public park and recreation facility of the City. Section 3 . Evelyn B. Newman, Mayor of the City of Friendswood, Texas, is hereby authorized and directed to submit to the Department, for and on behalf of the City, all necessary applications and information as may be required for consideration and approval by the Department to receive assistance under the Program for the development of said Centennial Sports Park. Section 4. The City Council of the City of Friendswood hereby certifies that the City's required "matching share" for the application authorized hereby is readily available at this time.
