R96-22 A RESOLUTION OF TFIS CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, HARRIS AND GALVSSTON COUNTIES ENDORSING LEGISI�ITIVE INITIATIVE OF STATE SENATOR JERRY PATTERSON ADVOCATING Tf� AUTOMATIC ADULT STATiTS FOR JUVENILES 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER FOR ANY QtIl� COMMIT'I�D INVOLVING TfiE U5E OF A FIREARM OR ANY OTEIER DEADLY 1VEAPON. * * * * * �r * * * * WI�FLAS, the increase in juvenile violence in our communities constitutes a need for decisive action; and WFIEREAS, society chooses to no longer tolerate juveniles who flagrantly violate the law; and WI�REAS, communities are united in placing the responsibility of the crime on juveniles 14 years of age or older. BE IT RESOLVED BY Tf� CITY COUNCIL OF Tf� CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, STATB OF TEXAS: Section 1. The City Council supports and advocates the passage of the automatic adult status legislative initiative of State Senator Jerry Patterson. Section 2. Any crime committed by a juvenile involving the use of a firearm or other deadly weapon will result in automatic referral to the Grand Jury for prosecution as an adult with no additional action required by the prosecutor and the judge will have the authority to remand the defendant to a juvenile court if the circumstances warrant.
