A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECL.ARING THE
RESULTS OF A RUNOFF ELECTION HELD ON MAY 31, 1997, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCILMEMBER, POSITION NO. 6, TO
FILL AN UNEXPIRED TERM ENDING MAY 1998, TO THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD.

WHEREAS, a special election was held in the City of Friendswood, Texas, on May 3,
1997, for the purpose of electing a Councilmember to fill an unexpired term ending May 1998
for Councilmember - Position No. 6; and
WHEREAS, at such special election no candidate received a majority of the votes cast at
such special election; and
WHEREAS, a runoff election was called to be held and was held on May 31, 1997; and
WHEREAS, said election was duly and legally held in conformity with the election laws
of the State of Texas, and the results of said election were verified and returned by the proper
judges and clerks; and
WHEREAS, it appears that a total of 2090 votes were cast in such runoff election; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS:
Section 1. The facts and matters set forth in the preamble of this Resolution are
hereby found to be true and correct.

Section 2. The official canvass of the returns of the runoff election held on May 31,
1997, reflects that the following named persons received the number of votes set opposite their
names for the position to be filled:
Councilmember. Position 6

Mel P. Measeles 1100
Section 3. The official canvass of the returns of the runoff election held on May 31,
1997, reflects that the following person was duly elected to the position shown:
Councilmember - Position No. 6
Mel P. Measeles
PASSED, APPROVED, AND RESOLVED this 2nd day of June , 1997.
