R98-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSFTOOD, TEXAS, OBJECTING TO PASSAGE OF THE INTERNET TAX FREEDOM ACT. * * * ,r * * * * * * * WHEREAS, the City of Friendswood population of more than 28, 000; and wHEREAS, the City of Friendswood is concerned about our "Main Street" retail merchants and their ability to compete competitively with mail order and internet companies; and WHEREAS, the City of Friendswood is concerned about the effects on state and municipal governments ability to continue services to our citizens if the Internet Tax Freedom Act is passed; and WIiEREAS, we are opposed to a six year moratorium to bar local governments from collecting current or future taxes on the Internet; and WHEREAS, all cities will suffer revenue loss, draining funds needed for infrastructure and police to keep our streets safe. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Friendswood, strongly opposes the Internet Tax Freedom Act and request your vote against this devastating action against the nation's cities and their local retail merchants.
